User Experience and Conclusion
Also available in HD on YouTube.
Before we start the written conclusion for the S.T.R.I.K.E 7 we recommend you watch the video above where my colleague Kaeyi takes a detailed look at the keyboard. It shows the various ways the board can be assembled, how easy the process is and the touch screen in action.
Now on with the conclusion…
The S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 offers a unique keyboard experience due to its modular style. We can set the keyboard up in a standard configuration or we can choose to use one of the alternate configurations, such as the number pad detached and the V.E.N.O.M. touch screen control module fixed to it. Despite this unique approach and the vast number of configurations setting the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 up is straight forward and the quality is to the usual high standard that we have come to expect from Mad Catz. The units fit together smoothly and can be secured using the screws provided.
The keys on the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 have a nice feel to them with a nice level of resistance and while the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 is not a mechanical keyboard the membrane technology used makes it feel much more like a mechanical board than a traditional model.
Moving on to the stand out aspect of the product, the V.E.N.O.M. touchscreen TFT-LCD is a very nice addition. It gives us quick access to the preinstalled applications or our own programmable slots and we very quickly got used to using this instead of alt tabbing to our desktop. As an added bonus the clarity of the screen is very good, with rich and vibrant colours. We also found the SMART software suite easy to use, no surprise given that this software (well a variant) is used on other products in the range from Mad Catz, such as the excellent R.A.T. mouse range.
So that brings us to value and with such a top end keyboard, with all its configuration options and touch screen technology, it carries a top end price. Retailing at around the £250 / $300 dollar mark the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 is very much at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to keyboard technology. We can absolutely see where that money is spent when we look at the keyboard, and its durability will ensure that it lasts.
