Plextor M5 Pro SSD Review

Conclusion

When it comes to building their SSD it is hard not to be impressed by the M5 Pro from Plextor. As soon as we unbox the product the metal casing gives a feel of quality and then upon opening the drive we find the latest Toshiba branded flash and the latest controller from Marvell. These are backed by quality branded cache and Plextors reliability testing looks to be industry leading as is the drives ability to minimise data errors.

In terms of performance there was a lot to like about the M5 Pro, in reads it is exceptionally fast and competes with the fastest SSDs around. Writes can be a little lower on synthetic tests but when it comes to real world use the M5 Pro excelled, especially in larger file transfer operations.

So that brings us to value where a 5year warranty and decent bundle of extras round off the product well… especially so when we consider this drive is cheaper than both the OCZ Vector and Samsung 840 Pro.
