In this test a mechanical drive such as the Barracuda XT or VelociRaptor score around 2.0/1.5MB/s which gives us a baseline figure for performance.

Benchmark Results

The result in this test will go some way to showing how responsive a drive will be in Windows use as the operations performed are similar to the random reads and writes regularly performed by the OS. In this test we see that the Plextor excels, easily outperforming the Sandforce based drives and doing well to beat the new Indilinx based Vector too. Only the Samsung Pro drive edges ahead on reads. Writes are much more competitive from the comparison drives, though the Plextor does hit much higher rates than the Vertex 4, Intel 520 and Neutron/Force drives.
