File Copy Tests

Benchmark Results

In the first of our "true" real world tests we have created three file copy scenarios which cover operations which users are likely to perform on a regular basis. We copy a folder of 27GB (game) and then multiple files totalling 1.1GB (Music) as well as a single 4GB item (video) from location to location within the drive, recording the time taken to complete the task.

In a trend which is becoming more apparent as we continue this review, the XLR8 Pro drive once again performs very well when compared to other Sandforce based drives. Regardless of the test performed the PNY model beats the Force GS and while it ties with the Intel 520 at smaller operations by the time we move to the larger file copy the PNY is faster again.

Looking at the comparison with the drives based on other controllers the PNY is competitive with Link-A and the older Marvell controller but the latest generation drives from Samsung, Marvell and Indilinx cause it more concerns.
