NETGEAR Powerline 500 WiFi Access Point (XWNB5201) Review
We have looked at a number of NETGEAR devices recently, from state of the art routers featuring Wireless-AC technology to Music Extenders and WiFi range enhancers. Today we are looking at a wireless access point that utilises Powerline technology to access the router and share the connection via WiFi – the Powerline 500 WiFi Access Point.
Packaging and Bundle
The XWNB5201 arrives in a box fitting in perfectly with NETGEAR’s usual branding. Attention is drawn to the speedometer style rating, telling us this is a 500Mbps or maximum performance product.
Inside we have two Powerline adapters, the standard XWN5001 that connects to the router, providing Powerline capability via Ethernet from the router. The second device is the XAV5201, which is essentially the same, but with the added WiFi functionality providing access point facilities at the second network location. Included are two Ethernet cables, one is required for the router, and the other is optional should you choose to utilise the wired connection available on the access point. Included alongside the devices is a software installation cd, instruction manual and various information relating to the conformity for various EU/International standards relating to radio transmissions and the like.
