Synology DiskStation DS213 Review
For some time now Synology have been producing feature packed NAS devices. We have tested a number here on HardwareHeaven and found them to be industry leading in terms of features and performance with the DS413j receiving our recommended award back in September.
Not everyone has the budget, or need, for a 4-bay NAS though and so Synology offer models such as the DS213 with two bays. Today we will be reviewing that model while also taking a look at their latest software, DiskStation Manager v4.2 (March 2013 release).
Packaging and Bundle
Synology use a reasonably plain box for their DS213 and to assist us in getting it home this features a plastic handle on top. Inside we find the DS213 in its own cardboard container, wrapped in foam with the bundled extras also in their own boxes.
Bundled with the DS213 we find a selection of screws for installing either 3.5" or 2.5" drives. There is a quick guide pamphlet giving us a very high level view of what we need to do to start using the device and Synology have also provided a software CD that includes a full installation guide and user’s manual in PDF format. A separate power unit is supplied with the DS213 and Synology have also included a RJ-45 LAN cable.
