ZOTAC ZBOX Nano ID64 Plus (Core i5) Mini-PC Review

At Cebit in March ZOTAC began showing their latest range of ZBOX mini-PC’s which included a model which managed to house a Core i5 CPU and offer some very impressive all round specifications for a chassis not much bigger than a few DVD cases piled up. That was impressive enough but today ZOTAC are taking their ZBOX Nano range to a whole new level, sending it out with an i5 CPU inside… that’s a midrange desktop CPU in a case small enough to hold in the palm of our hand. Can they do it while maintaining performance and minimising temperatures and noise levels?

Packaging and Bundle

ZOTAC package their latest ZBOX in a compact container which gives us a nice clear shot of the system on the front as well as noting key features. Inside we find the bundled items separated off into a sub box and the system is suspended in foam, wrapped in a plastic bag and to add further protection layers of sticky protective plastic are waiting to be peeled off.

This is one of the few ZBOX systems which doesn’t arrive with a remote control however we do get a stand which is used to mount our system on the back of a screen, Wi-Fi antenna, 65w PSU and product documentation/disc. As an added extra, and nod to how configurable the ZBOX is in ZOTAC’s eyes, we get a SATA card which allows us to install two mSATA drives in the unit (after removing the stock mechanical drive).
