Spearheading a new generation of graphics cards based on the latest GCN (graphics core next) architectures from AMD, SAPPHIRE Technology today announces the first two families in the new R-Series of graphics accelerators for the PC.

The new R9 280X family from SAPPHIRE has the gamer firmly in its sights. With 3GB of the latest GDDR5 memory and 2048 stream processors, and support for DirectX 11.2, the architecture is built to play the very latest games with perfectly smooth action even at higher resolutions such as 2560 x 1440. In fact its Ultra HD graphics processor can feed even the latest 4K displays with the HDMI 1.4a interface. Yet with prices starting from as low as $299, the R9 280X family represents a breakthrough in cost:performance.

SAPPHIRE is introducing three models at launch. The SAPPHIRE R9 280X TOXIC Edition features the exciting new Tri-X cooler design which uses three sophisticated aerofoil section fans together with industry leading 10mm heatpipes to give unrivalled cooling efficiency. The stylish shroud is designed not only to look cool, but to manage the airflow over the card for maximum cooling effect. This new cooler, together with a high performance 10-phase power management system and high quality components such as the SAPPHIRE exclusive double sided Black Diamond chokes and long-life solid capacitors, has enabled SAPPHIRE to deliver stable higher power levels whilst keeping temperatures low. As a result the TOXIC edition features extreme factory programmed overclocks, delivering the best performance in the industry for this product family. And at the touch of a switch, the user can choose between UEFI and non-UEFI platforms.

User looking for a slightly less extreme solution can choose the SAPPHIRE R9 280X Vapor-X model. SAPPHIRE was the first company to use vapor-chamber cooling in its graphics cards and has now implemented its award winning Vapor-X cooler on the R9 280X, delivering highly efficient and quiet cooling.  Factory overclocked to deliver increased performance over the standard model, the SAPPHIRE R9 280X Vapor-X model is a great choice for professional users as well as gamers.

Always looking to deliver the best solutions to the user, even the base model in this family features SAPPHIRE’s highly acclaimed Dual-X cooler. Dual-X, with its two aerofoil fans, and graduated heatpipes, is a design which received industry acclaim in the previous generation of products. The SAPPHIRE R9 280X Dual-X model is the most cost effective member of the family and yet is still overclocked compared with the reference design to give users the best possible value for money in this performance class.

At the same time, SAPPHIRE is introducing the R9 270X family. Aimed at the slightly more budget conscious gamer, the R9 270X series is the perfect match for gameplay at 1080p with maximum settings, yet has models starting from as low as $199. Like its bigger brother, the R9 270X supports DirectX 11.2 and all the latest game enhancements. It has 1280 stream processors and 2GB of GDDR5 memory delivering excellent performance in all but the most extreme settings, and is considerably faster than competing solutions in this price range.

Again SAPPHIRE is delivering three models. The SAPPHIRE R9 270X TOXIC Edition shares the same exciting new Tri-X cooler design and high quality components as the R9 280X model. Extreme factory overclocks again make this the fastest product available in this family.  This model allows the gamer with a more limited budget to take advantage of the high quality and enhanced performance of the flagship TOXIC series. The SAPPHIRE R9 270X Vapor-X model features a second generation Vapor-X cooler design, lighter in weight but delivering the industry acclaimed quiet and efficient cooling associated with this brand. Finally the SAPPHIRE R9 270X Dual-X model again features the proven SAPPHIRE Dual-X technology and delivers the best cost:performance ratio in its class.

All of the products in these two families feature the latest GCN architecture from AMD. They all feature multi-monitor support with AMD Eyefinity, as well as AMD HD3D support for stereoscopic output. They also support AMD CrossFire for enhanced performance using multiple cards in a suitable CrossFire enabled mainboard.

SAPPHIRE R9 280X and SAPPHIRE R9 270X products are available as of 11th October 2013 from SAPPHIRE’s existing etail and retail partners.
