NETGEAR ReadyNAS RN104 Review
NETGEAR are probably best known for their range of routers and wireless adapters however they also have a range of Network Attached Storage devices under the ReadyNAS brand. Today we will be taking a look at our first ReadyNAS to find out what it offers against the competition. The model we will be looking at is a four bay device, the RN104… or more specifically the RN10421D, which comes with two 1TB drives already pre-installed.
Packaging and Bundle
The ReadyNAS RN104 is supplied in a substantial cardboard box. The front of the package has some abstract coloured shapes, and not much else. There is a note to highlight that the ReadyNAS has a three year warranty and a note of the model number in the top left hand corner.
Turning to the side of the box we find a short list of some features for the ReadyNAS RN104, which are provided in a number of languages. This includes the physical specification of the device and the connection options.
Turning to the back of the package we find a longer list of key features that highlight the benefits of picking this model. They include file sharing, cloud synchronisation and media streaming among others.
Along with the main devices, which we shall look at in a second, NETGEAR provide the standard mains power plug and the PSU. These are very much in line with others that we have seen from NETGEAR powering their modems and routers. They also provide a Cat 5e cable.
Finally NETGEAR have provided us with a quick getting started guide, the standard warranty information and a selection of screws for allowing us to fix 2.5in drives into the bay if we so wish. NETGEAR also provide a software CD for setting up the device so while setup of the ReadyNAS RN104 can be achieved via the cloud, it is nice to see that NETGEAR have provided the same software on CD should we wish to set up the device offline.
