Silverstone TD02-E Review (Tundra Series)

There are a whole bunch of liquid coolers out there… various radiator designs, tubes and pumps. On the whole they are all very similar though and that is something which SilverStone are trying to move away from in their Tundra Series. Today we test one of the higher performance models in our Silverstone TD02-E review.

Silverstone TD02-E Review – Packaging and Bundle

Silverstone package the TD02-E in a box which clearly shows the cooler while also filling us in on key features on the front. The other sides are packed with information too and then inside it is great to see that the various components are well protected, even wrapped in plastic to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. As far as bundled items go, we get a manual, fans and a box containing all the items we will need to complete the install.

Silverstone TD02-E Review – The Cooler

The TD02-E arrives with a set of two fans. These have white blades and are 120x120x25mm models with a rating of 1500-2500rpm. Each is rated for up to 35dBA and these are 12v/0.3A models. As far as airflow goes we get 92.5CFM with air pressure rated at 3.5mm/H2O. Both are powered by 4pin connectors and have braided cables.

We use four screws to attach each fan to our radiator and another set of screws to attach the assembled unit onto our case. The radiator itself is a 278x124x27mm model which is made of aluminium and features some plastic detailing on the sides. Extending from this radiator are two rubber tubes which are 310mm in length.

Those rubber tubes end at our pump which has a nickel-plated aluminium body. The base is copper (screwless) and the unit measures 60x55x33.5mm. The pump specifications are 2500 +/- 200RPM with 12V and 0.28A. Powering it is a 3pin connector which plugs into our motherboard and extending from each corner are our mounting arms. These too are metal and the pre-installed versions support Intel CPUs (inc 115x and 2011) with alternate parts for AM3/FM2. For most models we add a backplate to our motherboard and then bolt the CPU block into it. Just 4 screws really and that’s us done.

Silverstone TD02-E Review – Conclusion

Starting with the build quality and design of the TD02-E we were more than happy with the product that SilverStone have created. The Radiator feels solid, the tubes durable and the pump is definitely a step above the build quality that other manufacturers offer. We dont really see the point in the plastic bumpers on the radiator, they will be hidden away in the majority of cases but overall the aesthetic is good… that metal CPU block being a real highlight.

Installation of the cooler is super easy. As with other liquid coolers we just screw on the fans, screw in the radiator and secure the CPU block on our processor. All of the required items are included and all are decent quality. As Silverstone note, once the install is complete the cooler requires no further maintenance and has a 5-year warranty which gives additional peace of mind.

As far as performance goes, we had no complaints. The fans provided offer very competitive noise levels when compared to models from other manufacturers and at stock CPU speeds the TD02-E scored right up there with the best coolers around. Adding an overclock to the CPU further confirmed that the TD02-E was a great performer, sitting at the top end of the performance scale.

Summary: Great build quality, an easy install and top notch performance.
