Also available to us is an advanced menu and in here we can take control of more in depth features. Such as bandwidth control, full reset/backup and firmware updates.

A full list of the advanced features can be found here.

It is also worth noting that TP-Link also provide a decent iOS and Android App which we can use to monitor and maintain our router.

TP-Link Archer VR900 Review – Conclusion

Starting with the build quality of the Archer VR900 we have a device which impresses. The glossy plastic areas have a flawless finish, the matt also good and we like the silver trim which as well as adding some style also keeps the router very stable. Installation of the antenna is easy, just screw on and the port layout is good. In an ideal world we’d have switched the USB ports so the faster 3.0 spec connector was the easier to access side port. Minor issue though in an otherwise good layout… it is also good to see that TP-Link have included non essential features that some users like such as the ability to disable the LEDs.

As far as setup goes, super simple. On a cable connection it is very much plug and play. For ADSL/VDSL the wizard walks us through the configuration nicely, even catering for specific ISPs. Once that is complete the router essentially manages itself but it is good to know there is an intuitive, responsive admin panel waiting for us if needed. This includes all the key features we would expect from a modern product some of which are essential in the home environment. There is only one item to keep in mind. Those looking to use an external modem, 3G/4G, ADSL or cable will want to head into the advanced menu and select the mode to have the router report the correct info elsewhere in the interface.

Performance also good, giving a signal which was competitive with other routers in the same price range and in real world tests the VR900 was able to stream multiple HD videos at the same time while also serving devices browsing the net, gaming, etc.

Summary: Solid design and good build quality with all the key features needed. Good performance and compatibility too.
