go site Gigabyte have been releasing peripherals for a while now, sometimes under brands such as Aivia and others under their own branding. Each time they have shown an understanding of what makes a decent peripheral and often they have stood out in a crowded marketplace. A sports car styled keyboard from a few years back jumps to mind. Now they are launching products under the Xtreme Gaming brand and it is one of those we take a look at today in our Gigabyte XM300 Review.

Gigabyte XM300 Review – The Mouse

The XM300 arrives in a box which gives us a nice clear image of the mouse on the front. There is minimal info on the features however the front folds open to reveal the mouse and some product info for those browsing in a store. Bundled with the mouse are two sets of replacement low friction feet, one black and one white.

The mouse is a right handed model and features a matt black coating with a mix of soft touch/rubber and plastic. A Gigabyte logo can be found on the palm area, and our mouse measures (L)130.0*(W)60.0*(H)43.0 mm weighing in at 101g.

Our left and right mouse buttons are Omron switches, designed for 20million operations and extending from the center of the mouse is a PVC coated USB cable (1.8m) which ends in a gold plated plug.

On the left side of the mouse we find two thumb buttons, a rubber grip and four DPI status LEDs. The right side mirrors the design, other than the buttons.

Flipping the XM300 over we find three low friction Teflon feet and in the centre our 6400dpi optical sensor (Pixart 3988). Gigabyte note that this offers 200ips and 50g acceleration.

Gigabyte XM300 Review – Software

Gigabytes control panel for the XM300 is nice and simple. On the first screen we see a summary of the button assignments and can click through to change them. LED control is also available, allowing us to select from 16.8m colours and effects such as breathing. Next up is our Macro screen, allowing us to configure those in a few simple steps before we end with a few extra options.

Gigabyte XM300 Review – Conclusion

Fight Club Essay Starting with the build quality and design of the XM300 we have a mouse which feels like it is manufactured and assembled well. There are no defects on the finish and it feels solid in the hand. Omron switches always give us confidence and the LED lighting is nice and bright with little touches like the PVC cable showing Gigabyte know what many gamers are looking for.

As far as the software goes, its solid too. A reasonable skin, intuitive and all the key options we look for in a gaming mouse. Firmware updates were easy, just a few button clicks and really the only thing we could say if being really picky is that it could be a touch more responsive when moving between screens. Its not slow but its not instant either.

For performance, all good. The mouse tracks well on a variety of surfaces, the we noticed no accuracy issues and 6400 DPI will be more than enough for most users. DPI changes were instant using the onboard buttons, the LED display was located well and clear to see and the main buttons offered a decent click when actioned. We found a palm hold most appropriate for this mouse and those rubber sections on the base at the side provided loads of grip.

A good solid mainstream gaming mouse.
