OCZ RD400 SSD Review – Conclusion
Since testing our first M.2 and NVMe drives we have always been impressed by the performance available. With the RD400 the trend continues and immediately we are off to a good start with a decent level of build quality. Basing the drive around Toshiba parts was always going to be a good thing, they have a proven track record of high-quality components and very stable, reliable SSDs. We also like that two versions of the drive will be available, allowing consumers with and without M.2 slots to take advantage of the product.
As far as the bundle goes, quite simple overall. Flexibility is always good, so the alternate bracket is a nice and the SSD Utility software continues to work well. We’ve seen it on previous OCZ models and it is feature packed and easy to use. Exactly what we need from an app for SSDs.
Looking at performance, the drive exceeded the advertised speeds of 2600/1600MB/s which is always great to see. In terms of those peak speeds, there are one or two faster drives available however as we worked through the various tests it became clear that the RD400 compared well in actual use. The HD video benchmark was a particular highlight and file copy operations were also particularly fast.
Summary: A high-quality SSD which offers excellent performance. Just like the RevoDrive models before it, the RD400 sits at the top of the storage market offering a no compromise solution for this generation.
