Oblivion sound stuttering

I'm getting this really irritating sound stuttering in Oblivion. It's purely sound related, as there are no visual stutters that correspond to the stuttering sound, and it seems like only FX stutter (IE the music is fine).

This is with nothing more than the Default DSP, sans one of the default reverb and chorus modules.

What can I do?

Edit: in my haste to help, I just realized where this was posted. Sorry about that.

thomasabarnes will become famous soon enough
System Specs

In Winddows Control Panel, sounds and Audio Devices, Audio tab and Voice tab, try changing to kX wave 4/5 for playback device, instead of 0/1.

This has helped solve stuttering problem with game sound in the past.

Increasing the "Playback Buffer" size (KX Settings/Setup Buffers) seems to help as well

I am having the same problem, and it seems to happen only in Oblivion. Turning the buffer up didn't help at all. The 4/5 DID, however, that makes my quad speakers useless since it disables the rear audio path (7/8).

Any other suggestions for getting this to work right in Oblivion?

Sorry for the thread necro, but this is the ONLY place on the net I found this specific issue referenced.
