Well I kind of have the same problem, except the front center channel doesn't work. Anyone know how to fix this?

Yeah I switched to these drivers because the creative ones would make it so the sound cut out every ten minutes or so in Doom 3. These ones don't cut out, but they surround doesn't work.

Oh and I was playing today, and I noticed that my rear speakers don't work either. So that's center, Rear Left and Rear Right that don't work.

Yes, the surrounder is at 5.1. Also, the windows audio config is set to 5.1. When I do the test in the Kx control panel thingy, everything works fine. All channels play perfectly. But when I play Doom 3, only the front left/right speakers work.

I have the same problem. Only have left/right output when selected multichannel in Doom3, while it is clear, that Doom3 output the correct one sound to front channels, because if the sound source is behind you, ther eis no sound at front channels.
I'm using the same KX config while playing CS with EAX - all 5.1 channels working fine (.1 is combined from all 5 channels via low freq filter)

try this: http://www.parawurst.com/www.bockhol.../download.html

so doom3 will output 5.1 even if it don't detect 5.1 speakers
(useful if you use 2.x 4.x 7.x)

maybee it helps (pls post results)

ensure that:
* speaker configuration is set to '5.1' (Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio -> Audio -> Advanced)
* surrounder is set to '5.1 direct path' ('kX speaker set-up')
* [check that all the 5 channels are audible via 'speaker test']
* make sure you haven't tried "kxctrl -shw 18" command, if yes - reset settings and go to step 1
* disable any EAX effects in the game [if applicable] -- if this fails, try to enable them instead
* check if 'wave 0/1' is set as your default audio device

Eugene, do you ever tried doom3 with KX and 6 channels?
As a said before, i have 6 channels in counter strike with the same config with EAX on.
Doom3 allows only to choose from 2 and 6 channels. While selecting 6, only front left/right channels.

i'm guessing this has something to do with the streams available to pick from in the router and the way they are routed in the dsp... i'm not sure tho... i'm no expert at all in using the kx dsp any1 with decent amount of knowledge about the kx dsp care to try some stuff in the dsp? glad to see you helping eugene.. thank you.

I've aslo had the same problem with doom3 (live 5.1). All the other games worked fine, but in DOOM 3 I had no sound in rear speakers. I've installed creative drivers, finished the game and now I am back on kx drivers.

I am also experiencing this problem with 3537 on my Audigy 2 and WinXP SP2 (with DirectX 9.0c) with a 5.1 setup - sounds that should be coming from behind me are not audible. I use a custom DSP setup that pretty much routes the DirectSound3D lines directly to the soundcard outputs. Other games that use DS3D (e.g. Half-Life/Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament 2004) work perfectly with my 5.1 setup. Doom 3 is probably making some incorrect assumption about how kX works and will not let us correct it due to its lack of audio configuration options.

UPDATE: Tried DSoundCtrl with no change in results (used their Doom 3 INI file).

Are you absolutely sure you have no problems? Do you have at least a 4 speaker setup? Can you perform the following test for me:

When someone is talking to you in the game, turn around so he is directly behind you and see if you can still hear him, and if his voice is coming from your rear speakers. On my 4.1 setup, I cannot hear any sounds that are supposed to be directly behind me (or at least they are extremely quiet).

I don't want to commit to the 3538 beta drivers until I know that it will solve the problem because my DSP setup is rather complex and I will also miss a few of the UFX plugins.

Update 2: It seems that no matter what I try, Doom 3 uses the Wave 0/1 device instead of using 5.1 DirectSound3D via Wave 4/5, 6/7, and 8/9. I've tried tweaking kX options (5.1 is working in the speaker test, other DS3D apps, and AC3Filter), Windows options (set to 5.1 speakers mode), Doom 3 options (in-game options and config file editing), and I even tried lots of different settings with DirectSound Control: http://www.bockholdt.com/dsc/index.html

Nothing seems to work

Perhaps Doom3 is using some DirectX 9.0b/c-specific features that are not properly supported by kX? It's definitely not EAX-related, as Doom 3 doesn't use EAX.

In my case, Doom 3s surround sound option doesn't work, it says surround speakers not connected.
I have 4 speakers connected (front l/r and rear l/r)
Surrounder is set to 4.1 and windows multimedia properties -> speaker setup is Quadraphonic. default audio device is Wave 0/1. kx drivers 3537

rear speakers play fine, but it is stereo... no difference in front and back sounds.

I don't want to butt in, but I just listened to the ratings conference of Doom3 from Germanys GameStar, and heard the complaint that it doesn't detect surround speakers unless you have 5.1 given in the windows setup.

Btw, while you're at the topic of audio not working in games correctly , I wondered if it's a known problem in Mafia to not hear any dialog (searched for Mafia already). I hear music, car sounds and other noise just fine, but not the dialog...

Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately, I already researched it enough to have determined that the speaker setting is not the cause of the problem on my system (well, unless setting it to something _other_ than 5.1 might help).

I'd really like to hear from Eugene, or anyone else that may be able to replicate my problem.

Well, *I* can replicate your problem... unfortunately.

Let's see - XP SP1, Audigy (SB0090), kX 3538, DX9.0b, digital out to my "DeskTop Theatre 5.1 DTT2500 Digital" (quite a mouthful!), XP set to 5.1, kX speakers (and my speakers) set to 4.1.

Doom3-wise, NO rear speakers - doing the turn-around thing, sounds that should be behind me just aren't there. And, the "DSound" control thing makes no difference for me, either.

Basically, I have flip-flopped my sound driver between kX and Creative ever since I discovered kX last year... the choice is ugly: *really* sweet music playback (I also use the MAD decoder), or great-sounding gaming (all the channels, effects, etc) - I think we know which driver setup gives which results.

A subtlety - whenever I switch my [kX] speaker setup between 2.1 and 4.1, I *always* have to go through a bizarre ritual: using Surrounder, I have to select the Speaker Mode, enable Surround, enable Subwoofer output... then disable Subwoofer output and disable Surround. If I don't go through this sequence, I don't get anything out of my subwoofer (as determined by the kX Test applet). This has been the case for all the kX's I have tried (the last 3, counting 3538).

Does anyone else find it strange (and annoying) that Doom3 gives you so little control over your sound setup? It's not as if it's an inexpensive or otherwise low-end game... sigh.

Same problem here... Audigy2 (SB0240), Creative Inspire 6.1 6700. Windows, kX Drivers and my speakers are set to 5.1, but no sound coming from the rear speakers while playing Doom 3.

However, I don't really care... I don't really like the game anyway

audigy not true 5.1 in doom3

I have the same problem in Doom3, all other games do real 5.1 sound with the Kx drivers

I would go back to SB drivers just to play this game but for some reason the SB drivers wont detect my audigy 2 card

I really like the Kx drivers, is there any word a patch coming out to fix this?

seems like a few people are having this problem.

Workaround???

Hi all,

Maybe some of you that have the required Hardware and expertise can reproduce this workaround: I installed kx-drivers and found out that it has no rear-speakers in games. Then I installed the latest Cmedia drivers for my onboard CM9739 but switched everything to kx in WinXP ControlPanel. When I fire up ANY game now I get EAX-Advanced Hd Option and it seems to work (I have a SBLive!).
So --> kx high Quality sound AND rear speakers works for me perfectly.
Please try and post results.

Allright, here is the full story:

My system:
Asrock k7s8x (onboard cmedia 9739 soundchip with EAX capabilities)
SBLive! (no 5.1)
CPU and the rest not important

First I found an article about Youp-Pax Driver and installed those. Since my Chinese is very bad I uninstalled them and everything that comes with creative drivers. Then I installed the kx-driver package and was amezed by the sound difference. The downside was, that I had no rear-speaker sound in any game (I tried Doom 3, Splinter Cell, XII and Thief 3). I figured that I might be able to use my onboard sound to play games and therefore have EAX, too. (nevertheless I read in some board that the new orginal Cmedia drivers have improved a lot)
So I installed these new drivers. At that point I had, of course, two soundboards installed. In Windows SoundControlPanel (I am not sure what it is called in English) I switched everything to Soundblaster (actually it gives me a choice over 4 different kx-options -> i.e. kx Wave CT4832 10k1 [cc00] 0/1).
So now everything is set to Soundblaster ouput and all my speakers are only connected to the SBLive!.
Then I (more or less accidently) fired up Doom 3 and was pretty surprised that I had suddenly four speaker sound. I tried Thief 3 and I can choose Hardware Mixing sound and EAX Advanced HD (no Multiple Enviroments though).

My REALLY wild guess is that these Cmedia drivers supply Windows with Eugenes missing EAX specifications. And since Cmedia and kx dirvers are probably more of a Standard than Creative drivers itself, they seem to add up.

Thus, please excuse that I cannot explain anything further to you, because I do not have a clue about driver programming.
That is why I asked any of you, if you are capable of reproducing this workaround. I really wonder if I have the "magic system" here.

That's very interesting and I'm glad it got things working for you I have rear speaker sound in a lot of games, but in Doom 3 (as I've posted before in this thread) seems to only use the kX Wave 0/1 device no matter what I try. I was inspired by your posts to install drivers for my VIA on-motherboard sound hardware, but this seems to have had no effect on the operation of kX and/or Doom 3

In a related bit of news, it seems that a beta patch has been released for Doom 3, and sadly seems to include no changes to the sound engine: http://www.3dgamers.com/news/more/1094638794/

I probably won't bother trying it until an official patch is released.
