X800XL to SDTV via component = blue biased image.
Did a quick search and have seen this has been mentioned before but I couldn't find the reason for it or a possible fix. So over to you to see if you can help...
I have a PowerColor X800XL (AGP) and have been using the TV out over S-VHS using this lead... ![]() and it has been fine. Works pretty well for viewing vids, DVDs etc on the TV which is what I mainly use it for. My TV has component inputs but is not HD or progressive and I've had my DVD player hooked up to it via component for ages, with no issues. But recently my DVD player has started acting up and I find my self using the PC to view DVDs more and more, so thought I might as well stick the DVD player back on RGB scart and hook the PC up to the component using this cable... ![]() Which I did. The only problem being is that even though I get a picture on the TV the image is mainly blue and no amount of playing with settings so far has managed to sort this. It's a real shame as even with the odd colour I can instantly see that the general quality of the image is better than when using SVHS. Anyone come accross this or have any ideas of what to look at? Like I say it's fine over SVHS and the TV and leads I'm using are fine for my DVD player over component. One thing though is that I don't have CP or CCC installed on my PC, I just use the latest official Cats and ATi Tray Tools to managed all my settings. Up until now this set up has been fine for me and anything I need to do settings wise ATT has been fine so far. One odd issue with ATT though is that using the SVHS lead it shows the TV as being connected, using the component lead it shows the TV as being disconnected. But you can still turn it on and off and change the settings. So I'm wondering if there's any option I'm missing from CP or CCC that isn't in ATT? I don't mind installing CP again if I have to but I know they've stopped updating it and I'm not sure if you can still use the old one? But I really don't want to install CCC on my PC if I can avoid it as it'll mean installing .NET as well and I really have no need for it. Thanks in advance... (oh and I know my cards not an AiW but I wasn't sure which bit of the forum to stick this in. mods move as you see fit if it needs it.) |

You might have a need for the CCC, it does the configuration of all the HDTV modes. You could hope its a loose connection and try jiggling things but I'm not sure how likely that is.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried the jiggly wire thing but no luck even tried swapping the three leads around incase one end was marked up wrong but ended up with even worse results.Think my mates got CCC installed on his PC so I might have a look on his to see if there's any options that mght do it. Also wondering wether to get this thread moved or re create it in one of the other forum sections to see if it gets more hits? |

Well I'm not an admin so I can't do that, but I'm sure I can help you work it out well enough
Two heads are better than one.It can't hurt to give CCC a try. I think it specifically has the HDTV mode settings for like 720p/i and 1080i etc. |

When you swapped the cables around, how did the picture change - did a different color dominate - other changes?
BTW, your thread here is fine, but if you want I can move it to the Hardware forum...

Thanks for the posts.
Not had chance to try CCC or CP yet, my mate does have CCC installed so I'm hoping to get a look at his later to see what options it has before I install it. As it's just a standard TV, no HD or progressive scan, I assume I'll need to be running 480i? re: swapping the cables, not sure if i tried all combinations tbh, probably should write them all down and make sure I test them. But the combinations I did try gave different results. One way still was blue biased but became really fuzzy, another way was mainly a red coloured image and a third gave me no image at all. Three cables should be about six combinations? R G B R B G G R B B R G G B R B G R Is that right, if I'm keeping the cables at the TV end plugged in the same but changing them at the PC end? As for moving the thread, I'm thinking it might be worth a go moving it to one of the other busier sections, they seem to get a bit more love than this one. ![]() Wondering whether to PM Ray Adams and/or Omega to see if they have any ideas? |

At this point try it at your friends and if the same thing happens I'd point to defective cable

Sorry Chaosophy,
Didn't mean to make for more work than you needed. You could try it at a friends house, but according to your description of the problem, I think the red cable (either the extension cable that goes to your TV, or the red cable of the adaptor assembly) has a bad connection. Try swapping out the red extension that goes all the way to your TV - if that doesn't help, then the short adaptor cable assembly coming out of your video card is probably bad - but let us know what you find out - OK? Considering your problem, there isn't a lot more that can be tried... Lastly, there is the unlikely possibility that the red connector on your TV is bad - but the cables need to be checked first...

Sorry for the lack up update on this, been too busy to spend any time on it. your help is appreciated though.
I think the cabels and connections on the TV are ok though as they work fine for my DVD player. Not tried the latest Cats yet (6.3) so may give CCC a go with those. |

Let us know how it turns out. If someone has the same problem in the future, a solution while reading this thread would help
