TV sound out of sync

read posts under AIW's need more work etc, Your WDM_nsp drivers are wrong courtesy of ATI's no service agreement.

I think the 6.4's use the TVS_A200 whatever drivers. This may be the sign of more AiW problems to come

Okay guys, I'm getting so sick of this thing!!! I regret with all my heart buying this ati product. I can't believe I paid so much for this thing and it's never done what it's supposed to do!!!!. I've tried everything I can to solve the problem and nothing changes. TV is still no sync'd with sound. I contacted ATI and thay said it was not their fault that it was a microsoft problem. I applied a hotfix that Microsoft suggested and it's still the same problem. I'm running out of ideas here, and I am so ready to return this thing!

@Kbuzzard, the 6.4 and above driver set uses the new unified driver, so you cannot change it. This issue I think is from TVoD

@El Roble, if your using one of the newer version of MMC then the Auto TV on Demand is the issue..it was mine anyway..as soon as I shut it off..the A/V was sync'd up...there is a reg fix out there..this will fix it for you...

How to turn off TV on demand on Analog TV

And get 480i back on analog TV

open the registry: Start->regedit

Go to this location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATI Technologies\MultiMedia\Features\DTV\Channel Manager

give the key "LiveMode" the value "1"

And TV-on demand will be off for analog and digital TV (HDTV).

THX to dolimite35

THis fixed the Sync issue for me...should work for you as well..

Go back in and change it back, I have never heard of this fix causing such a issue. Are you sure your in the right place? If it's easier just reinstall the MMC...I have seriously never heard of it causing a issue like this. What is you MMC version? -This fix is for newer MMC's

ive uninstalled completely my old drivers+mmc and did the whole driver cleaner deal and reinstalled with the new cat6.5 and mmc9.14 but the audio/video is still out of sync. i then tried the registry tweak but it is still giving me crashes. i am 100% sure i am in the right key. are you editing the key as a hexadecimal or as a decimal? i dont think it really matters :/ either or it crashes both ways

Dec. or Hex doesn't matter 1 is 1...But I am stumped at this, alot of guys have tried this fix and never got a crash. Maybe remove the MMC and use driver cleaner and do a fresh install of the MMC and try the *.reg fix again. Other than that I am not sure man. DId you check and see if it's a known issue at ATI maybe they have a easy fix for it.. Other than that maybe use a older driver and MMC version like cat 6.2 and MMC 9.08 -this is a very stable version..on both apps and it doesn't have the TVoD running..

yeah i uninstalled/cleaned/reinstalled with cat6.5/mmc9.14 to no avail. i put in a ticket with ATI. if they cant resolve it i will rollback to the stable version you recommended. thanks for the help.

oh and randomly while i was playing with 1 and 0 for the reg value the audio/video somehow is now synced up on the regvalue=0, but the problem is that quality is still 240i instead of the 480i

Yes it'll say 240i becasue you have live mode oFF so TVoD is ON....YOu need to set Live Mode to 1. After that don't cycle the inputs like s-video and composite because that will set the TVoD back on.

So set live mode to 1 and it'll set it to 480i, atleast it should.

I tried this reg fix with Cat 6.5 and MMC 9.14 and I have a rectangle in silver in the center of the picture now that says PROTECTED which makes it unviewable. The sound stopped stuttering but it blocks the picture so is useless. My TV always comes on with the 480i as being on, no edit required there I guess. The sound issue is REALLY bothersome though!!!

Hi,

I've had exactly the same problem, I did the change in te registry, it fixed the synchronization, and the image quality is much better, But, I have the exact same "protected" square in the middle of my tv, when the tv is playing...

This is a real pain in the ass, ATI could seriously have done their job.

If anyone has a fix to the protected screen, let me know...
http://img47.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0pz.jpg
In the image, the screen is black because of capture, but you'd have to imagine it was playing tv.

This is really really annoying, and I have a truely clean driver installation, I even uninstalled my sound drivers before re-installing everything...

keep us informed.

--Update:

From the time I started to make this post t'ill now, the protected thingy has disappeared, I just did minimize the window and took a screenshot, after having tested it, it seems that minimizing the window, and then re-maximizing it will remove the "protected" square, without off-syncing the sound, but, when you switch channels, it comes back, so you have to min/maximize... The square seems to be some badly coded overlaying (ATI anyone??) that the player does, thus allowing you to send it to the background when you maximize/minimize the tv playing window.

Anyways, It needs to be fixed, I think I will have to open another ticket towards ATI, if there are ten's of it, they might do something...

Yup, that is if you mean the Parental Control, lists as mandatory on the install. Also the regedit does not stick. Somehow it is being reversed back to the zero instead of the number one at times.

For me, the regedit thing stays, but you need to "reboot"/reload registry before launching your TV again, otherwise, the TV application will reset that bit to 0.
You can reload the registry w/o rebooting by killing the "explorer.exe" process from the task manager, and then launching it again.

Uninstalled/reinstalled MMC 9.14 without the encoder and the regedit seems to stick ... so far.. The protected banner showed up once so far and MMC caused an error needs to close blah blah.. crash occured once as well. Pre Beta testing AIW drivers is wearing thin!! Other than the usual crud/issues the sound is better now though.

The reg fix will stick now, just don't look through the input's like don't change to s-video or composite or it'll change the live mode back to 0. H3X is right it must be the Parental encoder. You don't need to install that. That protected sign has to be from the encoder...

Nope it's back (Protected banner) without the encoder installed. Also I never needed the reg fix for the 480i, it always went to that with or without the reg fix. I have not tried changing inputs at all. The reg fix sticks without the Encoder installed but I get weird MMC lock ups and the Protected banner too now when using it but the sound is great. There has to be a better way to kill off constant recording.... Now it just refuses to start the TV program at all...
