...and?

What exactly is the purpose for posting that here? I mean... I understand you're having trouble with the drivers but that belongs where you put it

I tend to agree, no need to duplicate it. And it seems that Dyre Straits is working through things with you.

If you read his last post there, you'll see he's out of ideas and suggested I move here. My referral to that topic frees me from having to retype everything I already did and you from suggesting everything he already did.

If you mean FORMAT C:, then basically no.

Last year I upgraded from a P3 450 with Win98 to this system. It took me six weeks to go from a blank hard drive to having everything installed and running more or less smoothly. I don't want to be stuck with the P3 for another 6+ weeks of reconstruction.

At one point, since I did have a full backup, I thought I'd have a look at the effect of a format. I nuked the C: partition and tried installing. The Windows installer re-arranged all the drive letters (another reason I've always hated drive letters). The end result of that would be even worse, so I restored before the installation was even done.

You should really format and install Windows from fresh if you haven't.... I don't know why it would take 6 weeks to get up and running again

what the hell do you do to it for it to take six weeks???

so long as I make sure I got all my drivers handy it only takes me a couple hours generally speaking

Thank you for your strong worded support....

He's right though it should really only take the better part of one day to get up and running again. I just did 3 machines in < 2 days but thats just from experience.

A format would remove the possibility of a hidden software issue

My D:\Program Files has 227 directories in it (not counting the directories that programs make for themselves deeper down). Segregation is never really achieved, though, since so many programs still put DLLs, configurations, and other stuff in C:\WINNT, C:\Documents and Settings, the registry, etc., so I can count on having to re-install almost everything -- and I'm not going to work on it 24/7. Re-installing all the Windows updates will also take a good bit of time as well. It won't help that D: will get changed to C:, either, since paths to things will be broken.

Why not just reinstall all the applications in the C:\ directory... and save any actual files you need... the rest you can recreate from reinstalls.

I find there is usually nothing within the program files of any value

If I'm not mistaken, you need to install the WDM drivers BEFORE you install the video drivers.

From what I saw, you are loading the vid drivers first, and that may be the problem.

Also, have you tried using the original CD that came with the card? It may not have the 'latest and greatest' drivers and such on it, but it should at least get the card working, and give you a starting point.

That's what I did in upgrading from a 9600XT to my X800XT AIW and I had no problems like you are having.

Still no good.

I did the Driver Cleaner etc. thing first. Then installed the WDM version on the same page as the Omega driver downloads. I also noticed ATI said not to reboot between installing WDM and Catalyst, so I moved right on Omega. Eventually I get Omega working and install AVS_T200 manually. I still don't know for sure whether WDM is installed completely and correctly, even though its setup completed without complaints.

Now on to MMC. The UCI part installs ok, but the ENU part silently crashes when running its setup.exe. Same in both 9.06.1 and 9.08.

Have you tried just using the original Driver/Software CD that you got with the card?

If not maybe you should give that a try. Clean off all the drivers, and when you do the last re-boot and XP wants to 'install new hardware' cancel it out, and then use the CD. If it works, then you would have something installed, and it would give you a base for upgrading to the newer Cats.

However, going to the newest MMC may not be a good idea. There is a post or two regarding that issue

If you mean MMC, then yes.
D:\Download\ATI\9-08_mmc_enu.exe
D:\Download\ATI\9-08_mmc_uci.exe
The uci package seems to install ok, but the enu one silently crashes without installing anything. Same with 9.06.1 and 9.08.

If you mean the drivers, then I did that for one version (besides the Omega and its WDM downloads).
D:\Download\ATI\6-2_xp-2k_dd_30152.exe
D:\Download\ATI\6-2_ccc_enu_30152.exe
D:\Download\ATI\6-2_xp-2k_wdm_30152.exe

Yes, and I did not fare any better (or worse, either). Just the same.

I can't use MMC 9.13 anyway because I use Win2000.

That may be why the setup fails, the installershield.

Far fetched yes but I mean.... this is MMC we're talking about

I'd rather stay with 2000 than switch to XtraProblems. Is Installshield circumventable?

No thats how MMC is installed IIRC. Its a far fetched idea anyway. Your next step might be to try using another app other than MMC. DScaler might work.

Nope. Dscaler's docs say AIW is unsupported.
