AIW + Omega 2.6.87 + MMC 9.08 Capture path not to be changed? Help!
Hello everybody,
for some weeks now (I had installed my system from scratch: Windows XP SP2, Pentium 4, 1.8 GhZ, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HDD, ATI AIW 9800 Pro) I use the given Omega driver (love it!!) and MMC for capture. I had to try a bit, which versions of drivers and MMC fitted best on my system and going by suggestions here I use... s.a. BUT although everything is just working fine so far, I cannot change the capture path in MMC to anything else than the installation drive. That is, I cannot use the second drive (2nd partition of HDD) for capture. I can set the path, but clicking the capture icon (when 2nd drive is set) results in a short flash of the capture window, than nothing. MMC doesn't crash or anything, but just refuses to capture... |

Why not install it on the other partition? Its a stopgap solution but it may work.

I've NEVER and I mean NEVER had a good experience with the Omega or any other 3rd party "tweaked" drivers on the 3 Radeon based AIW cards I own. See sig for details. The stock ATI Drivers work best on those cards in my experience.
I'd suggest using drivers from ATI. My .02

Thanks guys, just realized that the e-mail notification did not work for me...so reply is late.
Well, concerning installation on 2nd partition: I tried that already before posting this and MMC in that case just gives an error "device could not be initialized" and to try and re-install drivers... I would rather like to keep the Omega's, since booting and shutdown are fast and flawless, so is everything else (including capture!). Just the setting of the...(s.a.) does not work. |

Well good luck to you then... you can just move the files after I guess

THAT is exactly what I want to avoid. With large files it would take ages.
Also the system-partition is (on purpose) not very large. To capture large .avi's (mjpeg-format) I NEED to capture to 2nd partition. I can do that with other applications (e.g. VirtualVCR) but MMC is recommended for ATI capture cards (video enthusiasts) as producing the best quality captures. With mpeg-format that is certainly correct. Haven't tried .avi yet (s.a.)

Why not mount the 2nd partition into the folder it captures into? As long as you're running NTFS everywhere it'll be the same as if you captured directly to the other partition

That sounds really interesting, but I don't quite get it yet: how would I "mount" it into the folder... ?

Why, its easy when you look at this....
Just make sure the drive has no drive letter and nothing the system needs on it and presto

Thank you, looks quite good.
My 2nd drive unfortunately HAS a letter and that is needed, as I have my programmes installed there. Could I not devide that 2nd partition once more, use the new part without letter for capturing and so keep the rest for programmes etc.? (Would use PartitionMagic...) |

Yes, you could do that and it would work
However you get the space is up to you, that's just how you mount it.Go wild! |

Oh one other thing I found out... folder has to be empty... it says that but I tested it and if the folder isn't, its bad news for whatever was in that folder

Thanks again for taking the trouble, I will look out for it. Presumably one of these days I will have prepared the space and folder and then try my luck.

Hello all,
I just want to report on the results: I DID make a new partition, mounted it into an empty folder on C:/ (and the new partition without drive-letter) and tried again. But MMC (AND Windows apparently) were not able to recognize any additional free space for "C:/" with the mounted drive. I have found THIS solution, an even simpler one: I appointed a drive-letter to the new drive, started MMC, where the drive was dutifully shown as such and then tried to capture - AND IT WORKED! I presume, that my 2nd partition was too crammed with different folders (according to MMC standard) in the root-directory, where MMC puts its .temp-files (it creates a folder called "ATI_MMC" in every directory one defines as temporary in the settings...) So thanks again, your hints have been helpful! |

The empty folder mount thing will show that folder as having that much space, not the drive itself being X GB bigger

I thought so, but it is of no consequence unfortunately, neither the drive as 'folder' nor the folder itself were recognized by Windows or MMC to have X GB space. The capture was stopped everytime "C:" seemed to be nearly full.
But it is now working well, so "no sweat".
