Distracting Scrolling Bands
While I was using MMC 8.8 for about a week, this problem (that I posted about some time ago with MMC 9.13) was absent. The videos captured were completely clean-looking.
Now, I was able to upgrade [again] to MMC 9.03. But, the scrolling 'bands' problem is back. Take a look this video I posted on YouTube. It's just simply a black background and 30 second video that allows you to see very clearly what I'm talking about. This scrolling is completely absent from the Desktop being captured. AND, there's no scrolling on the computer screen that's doing the capturing. The only scrolling is what's showing up in the video capture screen itself and, of course, the video that was captured. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcngeaETrGg This scrolling wouldn't be quite so noticeable on a brightly lit video. But, when capturing something like Oblivion's dungeons, it really shows up badly. |

I see it... my contrast is 'high' in normal terms. But I see it.
Time to go loco |

Thanks for the tip to maximize the video. Now that you see it, what do you think it could be? I'm using very good cables. It also shows up whether I use Composite or S-Video. |

I can only imagine what it is. All I know is that it doesn't surprise me.

Reminds me of "hum bars" in a video signal - 60hz AC voltage leaking into the video signal... Generally comes from a signal booster or distribution amp more times than not, but can come from other sources.
Didn't I notice you posted that you dropped your MMC version back to 8.8 and the problem disappeared Dyre?

Makes me wonder just whether it's really driver-related or something else. I created several really nice videos with the previous 8.8 install while the 'hum bars' weren't showing up. (When am I gonna learn: If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it?) |

!!! Love his avatar...I run Official Cats 5.11 CCC with MMC 9.03 - all is stable - and I haven't fiddled with drivers since last winter because of all I've read about (from you, Hex, Judas, Random, et al...) the troubles with MMC/Driver combos beginning with the Cat 6's and the MMC 9.06 and above. I would recommend checking your TV RF cabling and cable signal boosters (if any...) throughout your house as a start - the bars' appearance could be coincidental with your MMC version change...

Do you think maybe some driver component or codec got "stuck" in the computer during the MMC installation "roller coaster ride"?
You know, it probably doesn't have to do with the RF cable actually, 'cause he's having trouble with game captures - nothing to do with the cable - so the problem does actually point most likely to the hardware or the software installed and limited to within the box of his computer... Dyre, Hex has a good point, you could try another capture software as a check, and see if the problem persists.

I'll have to see about trying another capture software someday. That's not today, though.
![]() However, I just wanted to update this thread to let you all know that I've successfully updated the drivers again and am using Omega's based on CAT 6.3 and MMC 9.13. The TV Capture is working, too. BUT, I still have that annoying scrolling that started this thread. One thing, though, is that, if I unplug the Audio cables that scrolling gets more noticeable. In fact, it gets more noticeable as I unplug one audio channel and then even more so when I unplug both. Plugging them back in makes it less noticeable. So, does this trigger any known suspects? Otherwise, I'm pretty much back to where I was before the CAT 6.4s came out and before I updated to MMC 9.14. For now, I'm leaving well enough alone.

UPDATED:
I've been doing some more tinkering with both of my systems here. Tonight, I installed MMC 9.14 on my main rig with the X800 XL and have gotten the video capture to work. HOWEVER, there's a "NO SIGNAL" gray box stuck right smack dab in the middle of the video. Don't know why it's showing this as I obviously DO have a signal coming in via my VHS player/recorder and it's showing the TV program I have on the TV itself. So, if I'm actually getting a video, wouldn't you agree that that's a SIGNAL? EDIT: Well, I just checked and at least that NO SIGNAL message doesn't show up in any recorded videos. I've checked settings and gone through setup a couple of times and don't see where I can disable this anywhere. BUT, I ALSO have the annoying 'scrolling' going on that I also mentioned originally that's happening on my AIW 9600 system. I'm beginning to wonder if there's just too much electrical interference in this small room.

Here's an interesting development:
I hooked up Video In via a Composite cable onto my X800 XL last night and then installed MMC 9.14. Tonight, I did some video capturing of a game onto my AIW 9600 and the 'scrolling bars' are gone! I have no idea why. |

I tried capturing from my xbox's svideo using vivo with windows media encoder, no problems. Then from xbox360's composite running through my a/v receiver into tv wonder elite's input block with MMC9.14 TV app, no problems.

Ok, just making sure... Dyre wanted to rule out driver bugs with 9.14 and 6.x so if it was driver related then it would show up on a tv wonder also...? maybe, maybe not... I guess AIWs are plagued. I had a AIW9800 and didn't like the fact that if you wanted to upgrade one of the components, you had to dump the whole card and buy another AIW or get two seperate cards.
I will never get AIW again. Its more flexible with two seperates... unless you have space issuses of course.

Well AiW's are inherently like that... not really their fault, you buy into the platform and thats how it is
