PiP with a AIW and a TV tuner
Hey Guys, I decided to find something to do this weekend so I grabbed a TV tuner card to go with my All in wonder. I am gonna try to get Picture and Picture going..has anybody tried this around here or has a setup running. It doesn't seem very common. I am waiting to get the tuner I seem to have everything else I will let you guys know how it turns out. IF you have any ifo for me PLS don't let me do this blind if you know of trick or tips let me know..thx

As long as you're getting your signal from a straight cable connection (without a decoder box) and/or from a Broadcast signal using an antenna, OR a combination of these, PiP is pretty well obsolete. I used to use it all the time before we switched to satellite. |

If you are using MMC < 9.13 and a over the air antenna you will not be able to receive any UHF channels on your secondary tuner card. This is fixed in MMC > 9.13 but MMC > 9.13 broke the ability to automatically mute and unmute as you toggle between the two TV screens. From what I have been told MMC < 9.13 and a cable signal work correctly.

I am using straight cable TV..to a spliter first then to the AIW and the TV tuner. I figured I might have to mess around with the MMC to get one that will work properly. I got such a good deal on the Theater 550 Pro I couldn't pass it up...even has a remote. SO that's my project for the weekend. I wouldn't say PiP is obsolete, I watch TV on the PC alot and record alot of shows..so I can be watching one show while recording another...etc. It has lots of uses..I just see it as another set of A/V inputs...can never have too many.

According to the technology, it's the ability to view two signals on the same screen. You can be watching two different channels simultaneously with one being shown on a smaller viewing screen. Now, in our area, with the satellite signal and the decoder box, we can only view one signal at a time on the same screen. However, with additional boxes, we can view various channels...but on different TVs...not on the same one. If, however, you're using a cable TV service that doesn't require a decoder box, then, in your area with your service, you should be able to utilize the PiP feature. For me though, with the limitations of the decoder box, I can only view one channel...no matter how many screens I use...from that one decoder box. If I even try to use another channel...say through my VCR...I only get 'snow'. "Obsolete" probably wasn't the best choice of words. However, with many services leaning toward restricting viewing to only one channel at a time, it's probably not far off being a technology of the past. |

Yeah I would have loved Satelite with a sat card..but my location doesn't permit it. Meaning my landlord said no,no. Now I can always view sat on this rig in the future by using a AV line in..but won't be able to do PiP. I wouldn't have went out of my way to add PiP to my rig. I got the card for such a great deal I couldn't pass it up. It also doesn't seem like acommon thing for guys to have in their rig. This card has some nifty features all on it's own though. It'll be agood addition. IS there anybody around who has done this set-up before? dual tuner PiP?

Well, I have not done anything like that before... I just wanted to add that since we upgraded to DVR (through our cable provider), the decoder box allows me to do PiP.

Nobody is more surprised then me. It doesn't seem like a very common thing. I probably wouldn't have tried except I got the tuner for so cheap and it's a great little board has stereo RCA inputs aswell as S-video...so I figured I would check about the PiP and what do you know after some messing around and help from H3X..and I got it running...imagine that!

Consider that when I get my new mobo and CPU that my luck might change.

with my new mobo though H3X I think I am just gonna add a dedicated GFX card for games as the mobo has a AGP and A PCI-E and pci's and you can use them all at the same time..so I want to keep my video setup but I think after awhile I will want something with a little more heft to play games with. what do you think? I know sounds like alot of problems...

I wouldn't bother with an AGP and PCI-E mobo.. I'd just get a straight up PCI-E board and invest the money in a high end mobo...that's just me, I don't see the point in running an AGP card and a PCI-E one.
Now running a dedicated GFX card and separate TV tuner... that's a good idea

Well the thing is I don't have the money to go and get anothe GFX card for the PCI-E slot...BUT I do have it when I want to use it down the road. The mobo I decided on the Asrock DualSataII is a great little mobo gets glowing reviews and can be upgraded alot. I just bought this AGP card a while back so I want to keep it for awhile becuase it doesn't cause me any issues..it works exactly hwo it's supposed to and after reading in this forum enough I realize that is a rare case indeed when speaking about the All in Wonders. So I kinda like the gear I have right now but the day will come when I want another PCI-E solution for gaming alone. So I still have the card in the AGP slot for my VIVO concerns..good little setup when I think about it..I will also have a AUX VIVO on the PCI bus aswell...that one I am not sure I am gonna keep.

Fair enough, I just don't see it worthwhile putting the money into anything AGP at this point myself unless you're already stuck on an AGP platform.

I bought the AIW because I wasn't sure when I was getting a new MOBO...then I seen the Asrock Duall SataII So I can keep the gear I have now and add newer stuff as I see fit..very great feature..add in the expansion board to the mobob and it supports even more hardware. I w sh all manufacturers made mobos in this way. See that mobo has FULL SPEED AGP 8X aswell as 16X PCI-X so what would you call it a AGP? or a PCI-E?
