reinstall
I'm desperately trying to reinstall Catalyst (7.2 I think). I keep running into the error warning that says I should install the standard vga driver. I've tried everything. I have run drivercleaner pro, following all instructions to the T. I have cleaned the cab files. I disconnect from the internet. For some reason, I just can't force it to go into VGA mode. Every time I boot up it says it has identified a "vga compatible" video device, I cancel, and lo and behold, in Device Manager, there's the yellow asterisk after Video Adapter, which I promptly uninstall. But then when I try to install Catalyst, I get the same message saying that I should be in Standard VGA. I need help!

That's odd because you should get a yellow question mark and then it should install the drivers for this unknown device.
Try this: Go into safe mode, uninstall everything ATI, run driver cleaner, then.... navigate to the C:\Windows directory, delete the directories "LastGood" and "LastGood.tmp", and rename "Driver Cache" to something like "Driver Cache OLD" Reboot and then see if that doesn't help. If it does, go back and restore the name of the driver cache directory and enjoy
