Omega drivers with 9800 pro

I have catalyst 5.2 installed along with MMC 9.06.01. Have to go this far back to keep the audio the way I want, etc.

I tried to install the latest Omega Drivers and it did an Automatic upgrade of the wdm drivers to the Unified driver which I don't want.

I then tried to manually install the 5.2 wdm drivers to no avail. Went back to Catalyst 5.2.

How can I install just the latest omega drivers and have it not touch the wdm drivers?

1 more problem

I am also getting a black screen, I.E. green status light on monitor changes to blinking orange. Audio is still playing, yet I am forced to reboot to get control back of pc

It does this when I have the MMC TV application open and viewing the tv and at the same time doing something else like, setting up recording formats, or having explorer open and looking for stuff. It maybe happening with my browser open as well.

Can anyone help me on either of these

Thanks!

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

First of all, it's really weird that your system is updating the WDM drivers with the Omegadrivers installed because the Omegadrivers do not include the WDM drivers. You have to download the appropriate version for the driver version you're using. Sooo...

This leads me to believe that you haven't successfully uninstalled any and all previous drivers....including the WDM drivers....from your system. OR, there are still Registry keys calling for the WDM drivers after you've installed new drivers.

You need to do a 'clean sweep' of the drivers related to your video card and include the WDM drivers, too.

Use the ADD/REMOVE Programs option to uninstall anything related to the ATI card. Do NOT reboot until everything is uninstalled.

AND, before rebooting, go into the Program Files and DELETE any folders that contain the Radeon Omegadrivers and any ATI official drivers.

NOW, ALSO before rebooting use CCleaner CCleaner - Home to clean up the Registry. (Use the Issues option to do this.)

Now you can reboot but DO NOT let Windows install any drivers for the video card!! Cancel both prompts (one for Primary and two for Secondary) and simply let the system get back into Windows.

Run the Cleaner option of CCleaner.

Run the Issues option of CCleaner again...and again...until there are no more issues found.

Reboot once again. Do NOT let Windows install drivers for the video card. Cancel as above.

Once into Windows, begin the installation of your choice. For the WDM drivers, you will need to go to the ATI website and download the version related to the driver version of Omegadrivers.

Cheers and good luck!

If you just use Driver Cleaner it shouldn't be able to find a driver period.

The best way to do this is to just keep the WDMs you like handy and install them after you install the Omega's. When the drivers uninstall it takes everything out with it... the only difference being that ATI's stock drivers install them again too and Omega's don't.

I used the add/remove to remove all the ati junk. Then I use driver cleaner cab cleaner on both cab files. then i used each of the ati remove filters. That's it. I didn't go into the registry and manually do anything or delete any folders, because I thought the driver cleaner did all that.

Right now, I have wdm version 5.2 installed and 5.8 version of display drivers all from ati, and it works right now.

When I get some more time, I may try to go back through the process of updating the display drivers, but if I have to do a ati cleaner, it will take me forever.

Thanks for your reply.

I went through the cleaning process with drivercleaner and CCleaner. I then installed the Omega drivers 3.8.360. I then tried to install the ATI WDM 5.2 drivers, but they wouldn't install.

So I uninstalled the Omega drivers and then intalled the ATI 5.2 display drivers. I then installed the ATI wdm 5.2 drivers and they installed correctly (I think).

I then tried to update the display drivers with the omega drivers and after they installed, I rebooted and the 5.2 ATI WDM drivers were uninstalled and windows tried to install new hardware and I think wanted to installed the unified WDM driver, but I canceled it.

I'm getting the feeling that I can't install the latest Omega drivers and keep the ATI 5.2 WDM drivers.

If that is so, what is the latest version of Omega drivers I can install and keep the ATI 5.2 WDM drivers.

Thanks

I wish I could help you. But, I've stopped trying to work around the Unified WDM Driver. I rarely do TV/Video captures anymore anyway. However, when I do, I use Windows Movie Maker's capture ability to get what I want. I've also quit installing the ATI MMC app. Just too many hassles over the past couple of years.

4.12 would be a safe bet. I didn't know the main driver kept info on what the WDM driver should be? Perhaps ATI put that in to discourage issues between new 3D drivers and old WDM drivers
