Advice on Enabling Sound AIW 9600

Hi all,

I have a 9600 AIW (AGP) under XP (SP3). This card used to work just fine, providing video and audio. The audio is enabled with an internal connector to my sound card. Somehow one of my driver updates disabled the sound on the card. The drivers have the unified arrangement; T200. I do not think that the drivers are properly installed, as I get the yellow exclamation in device manager.

I suspect I need to go back to an older driver configuration, and older MMC. Is there a generally agreed upon range of drivers and associated version of MMC that work well? And if so, where would I find these archived.

By the way, I unfortunately can't find my original driver CD. However, I don't think that matters because I use other software for DVD playback.

Thank you.

I don't think the problem is so much that you need to revert in this case. The problem more likely that the drivers weren't installed correctly. Incidentally, do you remember which device it was that had the yellow question mark infront of it? Was it just a generic "Unknown Device" or did it have a name? Usually it will say "The driver could not start" or "This driver is scheduled for reinstallation" etc.

More information would really help, like how you went about installing the drivers, removing the old ones, and how you came about that unknown device. You might find the older drivers and software on ATI's site, but really I think you could get things working with SP3 and newer drivers.

The general problem is that when using current drivers, the T200 driver has the yellow exclamation mark. And when I get MMC to work (sporadic), there is no audio, just video.

What I really want is to get MMC to work. So I am not really hung up on what driver version I use.

Based on input from ATI, I have tried to install Catalyst 6.2 drivers. However, for some reason, none of the WDM drivers seem to load. For what it is worth, I do have the latest Audigy drivers installed, and the latest HP printer drivers. I have the sense that some people have had problems with those driver sets.

So if you have advice, I am all ears.

I would find it extremely surprising if a printer driver messed up AiW drivers or somesuch... it just doesn't make senseful sense to me.

The problem is that the WDM drivers won't install and this is why you have no audio.

I'm not sure what the original driver set was when your card came out or I'd suggest trying that. Maybe go back to drivers like the 5.12 or another 5 series? If the WDM drivers simply refuse to install no matter how many driver revisions you try, it may be time for a reinstall of Windows.
