DX9.0B Breaks AIW TV on PAL cards

Don't upgrade to the latest version of DX if you have an AIW card with PAL tv. Your TV tuner will no longer function. ATI knows about it and is working on a fix.

Restore your system to the time before you installed 9.0b.

I think it's no accident that my Radeon 64 DDR VIVO Video-IN no longer works after upgrading to DX9.0b.

I'm using NTSC -- not PAL.

I've even tried reinstalling the newest WDM files. All I get is the Video In (7.6) splash screen. It's still sitting there after nearly 15 minutes.

UPDATE:

From SafeMode in 98SE, I reinstalled the WDM drivers. When I rebooted into 'normal' Windows, it redetected the new hardware.

I tried starting Video In again.

After hanging there for a few moments I did a CTRL-ALT-DEL and saw a new DllHost app running. I did an End Task on that and was able to get to the Video In Interface screen.

However, there's still no actual video coming from my host computer.

The only other 2 ATi apps running are:

Atiptaxx

Ati2evxx

AGAIN: I'm using NTSC....not PAL.

UPDATE: Good NEWS!

I just did another reinstall of the ATi video drivers and the Video-In is now working again.

This is AFTER I had installed the WDM files via Safemode and re-ran the DX9.0b Redistributable from about a week ago.

I'm now getting NTSC Video In working on my 64 DDR VIVO under 98SE and MMC 7.6.

Microsoft has been extremely proactive in assistaing us, on this issue.

They have islolated the problem and are developing a solution for the issue with DX9b, PAL AIW and TV Tuning.

Microsoft has also provided an official statement which is included in our INFOBASE document.

http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4254.html

Again, I will stress that this issue is being dealt with at the highest priority.

Sorry, I don't have specific dates for a solution.

THANKS!

Have the "driver in infinite loop" issue with an AIW9700 Pro and did lots of re-installs to try to get it working.

However I always lost TV functionality.

Having searched everywhere I found this which solves the TV problem for me.

Now, if the DNA drivers for the Radeon finally solve the infinite loop problem I will be a happy bunny.

Great forum guys.

JT2046 is on a distinguished road

I've followed some other Rage3D forumers to reinstall WinXP from scratch. Then followed with DirectX 9.0B (full install), ATI CD, soundcard CD, mobo CD. Get TV tuner initialized. It worked. Then updated all latest drivers from ATI/soundcard/mobo vendors. It also worked. I am using Sapphire AIW 9700 Pro Pal, Gigabyte mobo and Creative Aud2. But MMC 8.5 bugs are still there. Wish MMC 8.6 will be out soon.

Seems like MS has released a patch for DX9b and PAL tuner issue.

Early feedback is positive.

This fix is primarly for folks with non NTSC AIW cards. I doubt it will hurt anyone else's system if it is installed. Did you read the Knowledgebase article associated with the file? It should let you know whether it is a general use patch.

Correct.

Buf/ NY. You should not require this patch! It is to fix other TV regions. On the other hand, there should be no problem if you do install it. But I haven't tried that yet.

If your AIW TV is working, i.e. you can tune and watch channels? You don't need this patch.

NTSC ~~=~~ US and Canada and some parts of South America an Carribean. Shouldn't need the patch

NTSC-J = Japan. Patch Needed

PAL, and SECAM TV ~~=~~ Europe , Asia, Australia, soome parts of South America = MAYBE you need it.

Here's the german version: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...16-x86-DEU.exe

Considering you haven't specified which language you do actually speak this is my best guess.

Duh, Agree "shouldn't need the patch" because it does not fix NTSC thing (I tried).

But at the same time, my NTSC TV tuner is no longer recognized by winDvr, as for MMC, it cannot even start, I believe it stucked during init phase.

Win2k SP4, Dx9b, catalyst 3.7 MMC 7.9, tv wonder PCI version, Epox 8kHA+ mother board, latest VIA driver 4.79 blah blah

Hi Catalystcatcher,

I'm new to this forum and had purchased a AIW Radeon 9800 Pro 10 days ago. I live in Brazil where the broadcast/cable TV is done in PAL-M (an 'almost-NTSC' PAL system). Using the MMC, I have noticed two bugs and have half dozen suggestions to make. Could you please tell me how to submit them to ATI ??

TIA,

Jalok
