These comments are directly from my bro. He's been a fan of the AIW series since the Rage days and has had other cards with tuners in them also.

He thinks this card looks pretty nice, but there was no mention as to how much memory it's going to have.

He is of the opinion that the tuner should be left out of the cards in favor of just giving more stereo/S-video and standard video inputs and outputs, possibly even firewire. He says it always seems that the internal tuners pick up too much RFI (radio frequency interference) from the internals of the computer, causing degradation in reception. He uses his VCR's tuner to avoid this problem. Another idea would be to make the tuner an external module to avoid the RFI. The inclusion of an FM tuner is something he has missed since the Voodoo 3500, but has got around that problem by adding a New-Q platinum radio in one of the drive bays. Both of his PC's has one, and he's thinking of getting another. With this, the PC doesn't even have to be on to use it.

While he may consider purchasing this card, because his 8500DV's tuner died on him in one of his machines(rest of the card still works fine) and he wants to replace it, he would really rather have a "Mega VIVO" card with no internal tuner. Just give lots of inputs and outputs and he'll take it from there. Leaving the tuner out would save space for other goodies to be on the card.

He is not about piracy. He has 2 camcorders (one is DV) and 3 digital cameras as well as 5 security cameras. The faster-than-realtime authoring will be useful to him. He thinks that some kind of motion-sensing would be a good thing to add to the drivers built into the video card so he can use "real" cameras for surveillance, instead of low-res webcams with lousy lenses and unituitive software. He figures that this would appeal to businesses as well as home users.

He also wants to build a system to integrate into his entertainment center and doesn't really need a tuner for that, just ins and outs to create a DVR. He said he probably will buy this card, but hopes that a MEGA VIVO type of solution will come in the future.

He praises ATI for always offering cards with inputs and outputs. He feels this gives ATI a better handle on things than other manufacturers by offering greater flexibility to their users.

Erm yeah... Anyway... Where can we buy them? How much? I guess it's a long shot, but what about a supplier in the UK? I mean this card is reasonably cheap and is good enough for most games - and with good HTPC potential too, the sky's the limit really.

System Specs

Looks like a lot of interesting new features
Dual-VGA . . . by way of an adapter, or 2 separate connectors?
I'm wondering about the memory amount, and the core/mem speeds . . . and the price!

Digital-Overload is on a distinguished road

1. I was told it would have 128 Mb of DDR Ram
2. Dual VGa is a Octapuss Connector, (the connector with the Audio Out [to sound card], S-Video out, Composite out, etc etc)
3. So Far None of ATI Persons have mention the lack of a DVI Connector... Possibly Avialible Separate (Like the HDTV Connector)
4. FM TUNER
5. The Core and Mem Speeds were Released,
----I believe they were 400Mhz/600Mhz, I'd Have to Double Check

Judging by that connector, it doesn't have DVI, or is it opposite on this new card? (VGA->DVI connector)

the main connector on the card looks similar to A DVI,

9 out of 10 Chances ... to get the DVI you'd have to mail In something form when you buy it and they'll send it to you..

Damn its not so good though. I wish it was just a back plate that took up another PCI slot or something. Its very untidy to have all those cables trailing out the back of a computer, epecially if it's a home theatre pc machine.

It's about the same number as coming out of the older AIWs though. I don't see a big problem, in fact I'm pretty sure this will be my next card, I love the card and the price, it's amazing.

i see raid's Point,

being a recording buff,

all the cables in that close together you'd have some Interfeance issues,

like righ tnow i cant get half of my channels to clezan up to save my life,
even when using a vcr tuner,

the problem, The Audio - Out to Sound Car isnt Shielded so interfearnce from that screws with the pruple breakout box and the tuner,

Speaking of break out box, i dont know if this card will even have one,
I'd rather have a 5-1/2 Drive Bay Box, that way i can shield in on the inside instead of having my pruple one surrounded by Alu Foil.
