Sad 8500AIW + firewire problem

I'm using a DV 8500 AIW - together with Omegacorner's latest drivers - which is absolutely fitting my needs in all respects up to now. Yesterday I've got my firewire CF-reader to get my digital pics on the PC but unfortunately the reader is not recognized by the system. So I first checked my settings and everything seems to be all right, but I can not get the reader connected.

Is there any setting at the Omega-drivers that disables the firewire ports of the card?
Did you ever hear about such a problem?

Thanks
Wolf

Alot of People i know with AIW8500DV have the Fire wire Disabled,

Which i think it has a switch on the card itself to disable it,

The firewire stuff on the 8500dv isn't affected by the display drivers, so installing the Omega's shouldn't have an effect on the functionality of the Firewire ports on the card. I know with my 8500dv, the Firewire is a little more flaky than the Firewire on my mobo. I don't think that is good news for you, but you may need to play around with some system settings. (Is your AIW sharing an IRQ with anything else?)

Thanks a lot for your quick replies!

The dip-switches are enabled and no IRQ's are shared. That's why I wondered about the drivers. But as you say that the drivers do not affect the firewire port that was a shot into the wind.
So I really don't know what to do now.

I'll check the BIOS if there's any setting for firewire enabling, but as far as I remember there's no such entry.

If all else fails, I'd get in contact with ATI support directly.

System Specs

To get the 1394 ports working on the 8500DV cards, particularly with KT133a chipset motherboards and some others, you need to make sure that you haven't installed drivers that disable smartgart. The reason for this is that AGP and PCI post writes need to be disabled (go to your computer's bios and see if you can do it there). For motherboards whose bioses don't allow you to disable it manually, smartgart disables those features for you. Therefore, install the latest Catalysts with no other modifications (non-Omega) and make sure you have cleaned out all remnants of old drivers. Further, make sure that you have installed the latest AGP drivers for your motherboard (Intel .inf updater or Via 4-in-one depending on your board).

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your kind help. As I got the reply from Omegacorner himself that his drivers do not affect the firewire ports in any kind I bought a firewirce controller today and installed it two minutes ago. Now it's running and I will not change anything more. Never change a running system ;-)

Nevertheless thanks again for your great support!!!!
