Mmc 8.6

Heh... I know the update should be out real soon, so obviously I can't say how great it is or anything. Hopefully it will be a painless and worthwhile update for all. MS has got the patch out for people outside of NA with their TV problems now solved.

While waiting though... any words of wisdom on specific changes, to either MMC or the new update for the remote control?

Hey... they were posted on ATI probably about the same time I typed the first message.

I've already installed them and got the TV app working, after the second try..., and the new library has already rebuilt no problems.

First time out with the TV app... it would not find any stations with my 9700AIWpro tuner... I did a reboot and this time let it autoscan with the default US cable... found all my Canadian TV stations... then I told it to autoscan with Canadian cable and it worked the way it should have in the first place.

So far... can't tell you much other than when you use the PC Check, it still seems too dumb to figure out my AMD 2500+... says no MMX, you'd think ATI would know about AMD by now. Also, it still can't understand as to whether or not I have any DMA enabled for any of my optical drives or hard disks.... of course UDMA 5 for all hard drives, and mode 4 for my DVD ROM, with all the burners at mode 2.

Think these guys need a beta tester program.

Enjoy!

exclamation

We are the 'beta-testers'!

Confirmed the AMD MMX Error reporting "Not MMX architecture"

More importantly after the first installation

I get no sound in TV Mode (did not test all of mmc)

All my other direct sound applications like winamp and zplayer work fine

I placed an email support request to ATI - (Lets count the weeks for a helpful reply!)

30-days support! from on a retail box UGH! - I dread the thought of paying 1.25 a minute to resolve this issue.

Going to try to do a clean installation (Installed as upgrade thrice)

The first hardware company with a better software or even an open software solution we will win my hard-earned dollars. (Hear that ATI Guys - Me the $$$ you will NOT GET)

Doesn't look like it upgraded well

some componets in folder called programs/ATI Multimedia 8.5.0.0
and some in a folder programs/ATI Multimedia 8.6.0.0.

Removed both
Reinstalled cold same problem problem no sound.

Ran 'installation wizard' reset sound to proper 'line in'

Why did it unset it to begin with? Ugh! Why two folders?

No noticable interface changes.

I guess this is just more of a bug fix than a feature add.

Good question <g>. As it was released today, check the new features listed on ATI's site. In many respects, the new MMC seems to constitute mostly improvements in EAZYLOOK with some enhancements to the library. I just installed it and am putting it through its paces but it doesn't seem much different than 8.5 in basic functions. As to Remote 2.0 software, I haven't noticed any differences but am using the default configuration for now.

Thanks for the reply shrink.... George, I guess I'd have to side with you on the issue of testing... However I did uninstall 8.5 prior to having some trouble with the installation wizard finding available channels off the cable feed. I have never had that error before, and I've been an AIW since the very first ATI released.

I intend to bypass the AIW 9800 ans stay with my AIW 9700Pro until the next greatest thing, like maybe the revised pciexzpresso or what ever... the 9700 is very comfortable for me.

Since the first glitch, no problems.... the PC Check application is just plain sloppy/lazy work. It really is something I seldom if ever use, but I have noted that over several revisions of the MMC, ATI has never got that thing right. All my freebie benchmark things like AIDA know all about my AMD and the IDE mode's I am using... wonder why PC-Check can't figure it out?
