SVCD to DVD the long way around the without the new nero 6 Ultimate edition

I was given a challenge four months ago by a friend. I was to take 3 PAL cds, splice them, and convert them to a NTSC DVD. This had me stumped for a couple of months. For the first two months I was in awe that on one of the 700MB disc had 793 mbs of video on it - WTF, but anyway I finally did it. This was given to be since the advent of Nero 6. Nero 6 would not do a damn thing with the video at all because the dimensions of the video could not be changed do to unrecogized format (videos made in Linux). So here is what I had to do.

First things first you must have a powerful system. You have seens my specs somewhere around here.

what you need

Panasonic DVD-S35 dvd player (Plays most dvds and SVCDs including the PAL discs)
ATI all-in-wonder with atleast 64 megs of ram 8500/9000 or better (I have 8500DV)
cable to hook up to the all-in-wonder cables.
DVD Burner
Nero 6 to burn the video

First I had to hook up my dvd player to my system via the audio cables and an S-Video cable to get the best picture quality.

Next I turned on my ATi TV and set it to pick up the SVideo inputs and composite audio.

I then went to the setup tab again to the Personal Video Recorder and chose the dvd format and changed the size to 720X480 and sound to 16bit 48000HZ.

I set the video up in the dvd player and I hit record and started to play the dvd. With each disc I paused the recording so not to have big pauses between the videos.

I now had a MPEG2 file on my system that I could work with to make the dvd. Big problem now because it was too big to burn to dvd.

I was stumped for a month with the video because I could not reencode the video to a lower setting. So I needed a program to change the video to dvd format besides the video.

This is where TMPGEnc Dvd Author came into play. I setup the video took out the lost frames with it under its editing option changed the audio to PCM and this made the disc to over 6 GBS. I went to make the disc but I found that I could force the video to be made.

I now had a disc that was too big. Guess what? There is a lovely program called DVDShrink and I used it to shrink the video and bam A Recordable DVD

I used Nero to burn the disc under DVD Video.

This can be used for various videos but I am here just to provide the basic instructions to making video easy. Whether if you download the video or make it yourself here is a way crop it together with having to change to much in the video.

later

Nice guide, too long for me to read, but the first two lines sound promising

System Specs

Video encoding, done properly, is not simple. You shouldn't expect a short guide
