MMC 8.7 TV Recording Playback Question

I am using an ATI All-in-Wonder 8500, with Catalyst 3.6 and Multimedia Center 8.7. I am having trouble watching TV recordings that I have made using the "Personal Video Recorder" built into the ATI TV program. I have "Good quality" selected, and the recorded file is in .mpg format (using Mpeg-2 recording technique). When I go to watch the .mpg file I have recored, none of the programs I use can view it. I have tried using the ATI MMC File Player, DivX 2.5, Windows Media Player 9, and Winamp3. All of them give me an error. I know that the file is not blank because it is 44,000 kb (a 1 minute recording). I am guessing that I simply do not have the right codec to view an mpg file that is recorded in Mpeg-2 format.

So, to the questions:

1) Where can I download an mpg codec that supports the Mpeg-2 format?

2) What program should I use to view these recorded TV files?

3) Do you know of any tips/tricks to get better quality recordings?

Thanks!

PS: CSI comes on in 10 minutes. I want to be able to watch it later!

You can use Codec Pack Elisfot http://codecpack.elisoft.net/

Or Klite codec pack http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

They will enable WMP to play m2v or mpeg2 files

Thanks! K-Lite worked like a charm. Had to do some tinkering to get the sound to recrod, but, in the end, everything worked out great! Thanks for your input! Cronie$mack
