No More 1024x768 Capture???

I have been eager to upgrade my RADEON 64 DDR VIVO to a newer capture-capable card with S-Video In.

BUT, so far, the ones I've looked at no longer capture even 800x600!

Has ATi totally abandoned the higher capture resolutions?

(I wish they'd make an updated VIVO card in the same vein as my current one. I have really enjoyed it and will continue to do so as long as possible.)

Doh.... I think I gotta start getting more sleep.

In a nutshell, I was getting my OUTPUT and INPUT mixed up. I'm able to do TV OUTPUT from my RADEON at up to 1024x768x32 to the TV. This is the setting I use to also send the signal to my 64 DDR VIVO card's Video In. My 'confusion' started when none of the newer capture cards I've been looking at made any mention of 1024x768x32 at all on the cards' boxes.

Just write this one off to a 'brain cramp'.

actuallly.... the higher res isn't saposed to even work at all over s-video.... my voodoo 3 would attempt 1024x768.... it did work..... sorta.... you could tell it was at a higher res as the fonts and everything were small with more room..... but overall... it wasn't any better... image quality wise..... S-Video is saposed to support outputs at 800x600.. TV's just won't do it.... 400x300 is the highest (800x600 interlaced)..... You want higher quality... the composite.... or better...... It's sorta messed up... if you want to do some captureing..... i'm using Frap 2.0 ..... 1024x768 is the maxium captureing size... with audio... good framerate..but wish for raid on 2 or more 7200 rpm.. along with a pile of ram.... if you plan on captureing anything significant....

Judas,

Thanks for the reply.

What I've been doing for quite a long time now is this:

I play games on my gaming rig at 1024x768x32 bit and send the signal via the S-Video Out (using a Composite Converter) to the Video In on my 2nd rig that's using the 64 DDR VIVO. (There's no S-VIDEO IN on the VIVO.) The 1024x768 is the MAX res I can use doing this without creating a Virtual Screen on the V ideo In Window on the 2nd computer.

Now here's where the 'confusion' comes in: Even though the Video In screen can be seen in its entirety using a 1024x768 Video Out signal from the other computer, the ACTUAL CAPTURING res is determined by the Personal Video Recorder Settings selected for capturing. The fact is 720x480, NTSC (525) IS the MAXIMUM possible capture resolution. When I use this setting and capture to .MPG format, I have virtually no loss of frames and no problem with audio, either. I DO, however, get 'fuzzy' image quality.

My overall hope is that, if I upgrade my capture card to one that has S-VIDEO IN, I won't lose any, or nearly so much, image quality.

Perhaps someone can speak to that concern.

Thanks

difference between normal video cable... and S-Video... is that each color is setup as it's own wire..... RGB... along with some other things that i haven't looked into..... You'll get a sharper picture..... guaranteed...if not... then it's a hardware limitation....(that sucks)

i'm just trying to think....software programs really suck juice...but can produce some good quality.... i'm sure you don't wanna go that way though....

Damn... i'll have ot get back to you on that.... you might wanna make a post in that video forum.....
