exclamation Getting VideoSoap to work

Hi!
I have a Radeon All-in-Wonder 9800 Pro with Catalys 4.2 and MMC 8.9. I have been trying to get VideoSoap feature to work but its button is always disabled and I cannot turn it on or change any of its setting. I never got that to work with an of older Catalyst driver(3.7,8,etc.) nor MMC versions. I even formatted my system a few times yet no luck!
Whats the deal with it? As my cable is somewhat noisy and I think VideoSoap feature would be very useful!
Any help appreciated!
Damon

That feature only works with certain applications and it depends on what you are watching. If your cable TV is a little noisy, I do not think the video soap will do anything with that. That is a problem with your cable provider. What videosoap does is cleans up the blockiness of compressed video by blurring it. Try using it with Divx Player.

zerodamage, what you're referring to is "FULLSTREAM." VideoSoap is a related feature that is for cleaning up TV noise.

confutatis, the last I heard is that VideoSoap is only available while recording TV, not while only viewing.

From a DriverHeaven interview of Stephen Orr, Manager of Convergence Multimedia at ATI:
Quote:
Stephen "Shrink" White: &nbsp Fullstream has only been adopted by Real Media and in the DIVX player. Can you speculate as to what is interfering with it being adopted more broadly and what we can look forward to seeing in the future? In a related question, one user asked whether or not Videosoap can be applied to the tv image as it is displayed.

Stephen Orr: &nbsp What is not understood (I think) is that the technology we call FULLSTREAM (which is used to improve picture quality on playback) is specific to each individual codec. DivX (which is essentially MPEG-4) uses a different algorithm to REAL, which in turn would be different on say WMV9 or some other codec. It is not a “generic” thing. As a result, enabling a particular streaming technology requires considerable engineering effort both by ATI and by the vendor of the specific codec. We are looking at ways to improve the VideoSoap feature, both through new, more powerful filters and enabling it for live TV.

Thanks for the replys,
Yes, thats what I need it for, for recording higher quality pics. In Personal Video Recorder, where I click on Map Presset... to select recording preset where you can select the presets [Edit VideoSoap...] button is disabled and in under VideoSoap colums they are all set to none. I can't understand why it is all disabled when I want to pick the encoder. Ah...
