Default Post Winxp Windows Messenger Capture Problem

I am using a Radeon 64mb DDR ViVo.

I'm running Windows Messenger (4.6) under WinXP. The software works, but I can't configure the camera. I'm asked to select a camera, and I select "ATI Rage Theater Video Capture" - my only option. I click "Next" and get the following message:

Camera Error: The camera you selected is not working properly, or may be in use by another program. Please click Back to try again, or to select a different camera.

While working on this configuration, I'm running nothing even remotely video-related. When I do run the TV tuner, the camera image comes in just fine on Composite.

I have tried the Ati Vcr and Virtual Dub capture, they both work fine with the camera i have.

Anyone have any Ideas, Thanks!!!

I have run in the same problems. Maybe this link will help:

NetMeeting May Detect an Incorrect Device for Video (Q243130)

What kind of videodevice do you use? Microsoft recommends, if it's a digital camcorder, to use the digital input of your computer. And what happens if you use Netmeeting 3.01?

I wasn't able to use video wih Netmeeting and Messenger. I use a digital JVC camcorder and can attach it to a simple IEEE1394 capturecard and analog to my Radeon ViVo 64 MB DDR. First I tried it with the analog input, because I thought I needed to use the WDM-drivers, but the programs didn't see the capturedevice. When I used the firewire, Netmeeting at sudden detected the IEEE1394 and the WDM Rage Theater. Choosing the IEEE1394, but after the configuration of the video (with REALLY bad imagequality) netmeeting had forgotten the video and couldn't see it again.
I think it has something to do with the Video for Windows versus DirectShow. Microsoft will not provide support for encoding or decoding DV video data for VfW. (See http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/tech/...dcap/dvavi.asp

If somebody knows how to use videoconferencing without a webcam, please help!
