TV Wonder Pro Out of Synch

I have a ATI TV Wonder Pro Remote Edition that I installed on a friends computer that also has a Radeon 9200... it has a Soundblaster Audigy 2 SoundCard...
I left the 9200 with the 4.11 Catalyst... for some reason the TV tuner picture is out of synch with the sound... comparing it with a regular TV broadcast... there is a slight delay of the TV video...
Also there is an major echo if the volume is turned up....
The volume control on the TV Tuner seems to be linked to the wave slider on the soundcard control but the mini plug link is plugged into the line input between the TV Wonder card and the the soundcard...
The newest upates for the DAO/ Tuner and Media Center are installed... and the latest drivers for the soundcard as well... all other types of audio and video run fine... DVD..CDS, MP3s etc.

It is only the TV Tuner that is wacko...

Any ideas?

Fixed it by returning to 5.2s. I found in the ATI knowledge base that the 5.3WDM's use a different path for Audio that no longer requires you to hook your AIW to your soundcard. But that sucks because it puts TV audio out of sync with source. That never happened the old way. Hopefully ATI can fix that.

prodigal

I don't know if your talking to me, but I use DC and tried a few install variations.5.3ccc 5.3cp and mmc9.03. But as I said, ATI has changed the audio path on the 5.3's and thats the problem for me. Returning to 5.2s fixed it good as new, or at least as good as before 5.3. Quote from ATI "With the introduction of WDM Capture Driver 6.14.10.6300 on ati.com (as included in CATALYST 5.3), a new digital audio path is used for routing sound from the ALL-IN-WONDER to the soundcard, for ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 Series or higher." That clearly is creating the lag in sound between my source and PC. Hopefully CatMaker will read this thread as its not easy enough to leave feedback at ATI. But I will try anyway to do that, don't get me wrong, I'd like to see this fixed.

I'm having the same problem. I have:

TV Wonder Pro Remote Control Edition
Radeon 8500
Windows XP SP2

I found a reference on ATI's site to a yet unofficial Microsoft patch that was supposed to address this problem, and I obtained it from Microsoft Support, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I'm currently using Omega Driver 2.5.58, and have version 9.06 of the MMC installed, but each of the earlier versions seemed to have the same problem. I have the last WDM driver for the TV Wonder Pro that is on their web site.

I'm actually having several problems at once:
1. TV Video out of synch.
2. Captured TV recordings have no audio
3. DVD Player fails with an error when you attempt playback

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

The MS link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;887131

(I followed the links to download the "quartz.dll" and for whatever reason cannot find the hotfix) Anyone have a direct link to the actual hotfix?

They say it isn't official yet dated Nov 2004!

Hmm, Steve ... I just read your post & that's what I'm havin' too bud ^_^ ... & then tried to look all solutions @ ATI Support Center, & got the sound echo hotfix ...

done that, but still suffers Audio Lag ... exactly like how your VCap delays slight-seconds before / after audio ... my case is audio precedes ( sounds first, then vid. followed )...

& Rob ? you're suggestin' that we revert back to Cat 5.3 ?? & use any patches that's not the latest ??

& Pr0-Jen ... ?? Done that processes too, bud ... still nothin' ...

PhyroLynx,
Not 5.3's they use the same new WDM's as the 5.4's that route audio internally. No I said going back to 5.2's and their accompaning WDM's fixes my ATI TV out-of sync issues. There is another thread going on about this issue here http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...0&goto=newpost . That one leads to a suggestion that I plug my audio out line into my mic in, but I haven't tried that because even if it works it seems like a B.S. fix. I also got a B.S. response from ATI on my problem ticket. Dealing with this now though, I'll let you know how it goes.

I have the same problem. Did all of you use the internal or external connectors from the TV pro? I am currently using the external. If you run it into your sound card, then go to your input mixer(either in control panel or creative surround mixer. You should only have one input turned on in that screen. The sound goes through the PCI with the video, while at the same time going into the line in on your card. Turn one off, the line in usually sounds better than "what U hear" but has a bigger delay.

I Got It! (but what a pain in the patoot!)

OK, I had the same out-of-synch & echo problem with the audio in advance of the video, new install on a new 'puter.
Running a P4 3.2GHz on an Intel MB (915 series if memory serves)
. XP Home SP2
. Integrated audio & video (so far)
. TV Wonder Pro Remote Control Edition

. ATI Drivers & Software latest versions off ATI site yesterday
. (What came on the CD crashed in initial TV setup)
... mmc-9-1-0-0-dao-mdac.exe
... tv_wonder_pro_wdm.exe (file version on both is 4.0.100.1190)
... mmc-9-06-1.exe
...... Installed in that order.

Yorobbie mentioned hooking up the audio to the microhone input, and that it seemed like BS, but that gave me the clue I needed. Maybe the person who gave that hint didn't explain what they meant very well.

hokay, so....
External audio cable hooked up to Line Input.

TV Setup: Display Tab: Initialization Wizard: Set Audio Input to Microphone
(Does it make sense? No. It doesn't have to. It's Windows.)

Right-click Volume Control icon in Taskbar, click 'Open Volume Control'

Click Options->Properties, and what ever you have to click to get to the Recording controls.

Select 'Line In' & set an appropriate volume (I had to set mine pretty low).

At this point you should be hearing it... if there is an Echo, Right-click Volume Control icon in Taskbar, click 'Open Volume Control' again (leaving the Recording Control open for further tweakage if needed). Turn the 'Line In' control all the way down or check the 'Mute' box.

I told ya it didn't make sense... but it worked for me at least - hope it helps you guys.

Oh, and although I didn't use it, I did find the quartz.dll file yorobbie was looking for at:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?quartz

Yookkk ... Wonko ... I read your post & it's very similar to one on ATI Support list, bud ...

Install - Re-install ... done that steps like countless times & still gets me nothin' ... then removed Audigy software completely kills the echoes & that's it ...

current bugs remains ... Audio Precedes ...

been goin' on about a season now ... this startin to take place when I was BZ savin' AVI files to my HD & then in just snap ... my MMC App. starts to lags ... so thought of clearin' my space would help, but shell no ... I was using 8.02 MMC then, & now upgraded to the latest ... which some of us would say to cure this very prob ... but nothin' as well here ...

& then thinkin' to reformat my HD, but I don't think that'll solve a thing ...

oh well ... I'll just try somethin' out now ...

Lata' gang ... & should I succeed ^_^ ... then any o' ya'll w/ this same s##t as mine should have no prob clearin' the bugs ...

Never saw the post on the ATI Thread you referred to... But every time I launch the TV I have to open the recording control & reselect the Line In input... which is a pain in the arse.

I am seriously considering yanking this bugger & trotting it back to the store to exchange it for a Hauppauge 150... which is what I originally intended to get (PC World Best Buy) only I let me talk myself out of it.

I mean, the ATI remote can't even change channels or volume (in TV mode), use the interactive program guide, etc etc... unless you have an ATI video card - I mean, WTF!? 42 buttons & 6 of them actually work? WTFingF!?

And I paid for that.

Not putting a notice about what you can't do with it unless you have an ATI video card is not the best way to get people a want a new video card... or get them to keep the TV Tuner card. It says "...compatible with all graphics sub-systems supporting MS DirectX overlay." That's a half-truth at best.

Gee ... your sitch sounds worse than mine / the rest of us ^_^ .. .. but then come to think ... ATI TV Wonder then DIDN'T required us user to have any of that craps ...

ones that lits me most ...

' Gotta have ATI cards ^_^ ... ' just so the TW to works properly ... Hmm, I wasn't using any ATI card then ... G-Force II ... & even crappier card quite then ago ...

but now ... latest patch - thought would cool upgrade, but DANG !! ... Nothin' workin' out right .. TV-wise .. .. & didn't I put a post then ago too, that whenever I start my TV App. memory like overused ... therefore slows EVERYTHING DOWN !! ... what's w/ that ?!! ... & then turned it off ... reverts everything back to normal ...

I got
.......... 1.2 GB Memory ...
........... 120 GB HD ...
- - - - - AMD Ahtlon 2G XP+ ...
........... ATI 9600 ...
- - - - - ATI TV Wonder Pro ...
........... DVD / CD-RW Drives ...

Latest patches from ATI.com ... & recently fixed sound echoes by removing Audigy + XVids patches ... & Mixed Crash Messeges also gone since I 'kill' that patch ...

Now ... I think cable hookin' don't have a thing to do w/ this specific kinds of lag ... ( Audio Lag - in whatever condition ) ... either old softwares / patches I might've stored & never used could be very likely that cause this mishaps ... but what ... I haven't a clue yet ...

& again, I also once posted that my Nero Vision Express V.Cap drives displayed my TV Video input perfectly ( exactly like before ) ... only no audio ... but then try startin' the TV app. again ... same crap remains ... ( Audio Lags ) ... this then gave me new 'bug' theory ... to delete NVE patches, or not, haven't tried it yet ... because once I do & it didn't cure a thing, then I'm wastin' space for nothin' ... doin' that gets tirin' lately ...

So I just gonna keep an eye-out should any of really able & finally did manage to find a cure for this very prob ...

( sighs ) ... I once able to play / recs. w/ no hassle whatsoever since '01 ... & now ... I gotta revert to using TV Rec. ... ( sighs ) ... Todays Techs ... kewl - but buggy ...

L. .L ... Wonko ... ya'r so dang right, bud ...

WTF's goin' on w/ those geniouses that claims this / that for betta' gamin' rig ??

I ended up taking that POS back to the store & swapping it for a Hauppauge PVR150, which a competitor had a special on for $15 less, so they matched it.

Smooth, fast, uncomplicated install, it recorded when I wanted it to while I was on the other coast for a week, the buttons on hte remote do the right things, it looks good, sounds good, I'm a happy camper.

And my wife wants one now. So.... HEY!!! ATI!!!! THAT"S TWO SALES YOU LOST!!!!!!!

See ya!

Update

On my end, it still stands at this. Newest WDM's suck. ATI has been of no help, last I heard from them they were sending my problem internal for evaluation, haven't heard from them since. Currently using Omega 5.4's, old WDM's, and MMC 9.6.01 and everything is groovy. Anyone who needs the old WDM's and can't find them, e-mail me and I'll hook you up.

Sent you the WDM's, let me know how it goes. 5.5's are still broke, wrote ATI, waiting to hear back. What patches do you refer too. Or is that a problem with semantics.

C:\ATI\SUPPORT\5-5_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\WDM\WDM_SP\XP is where 6.14.10.6246 are if interested! The install chooses C:\ATI\SUPPORT\5-5_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\WDM\WDM_NSP\XP 6.14.10.6312 for AIW 9600's and anything newer. Notice NSP, as opposed to SP, that is the dif. By the by, does anyone know if the -6246's are the 6246v3, or older 6246's?

Hey, Yobie ( Yorobie ) ... I still troubled w/ even that old WDM you sent me. Mistakenly delete my current WDM, & just slows s$%ts down, but then re-install the ones that comes w/ 5.4 Cat. & all speeds up like before.

But the old prob remains: Audio Lag. & I've been meanin' to ask you about that Omega 5.4 ... this is a driver too right ? I'm gonna need that too for everything to work in sync again ? ... if so then, could you also forward me that driver ...

& please have it sent to Da90s_DinoHunter@Yahoo.com, since the one you sent thru Hotmail was nullified & classified as virus ( Net-Safe these days ) ...

Get the omegas here, they are not WDM equiped, use the one I sent you. But first use Drivercleaner. Then you may have to install the WDM's twice with reboots after the omegas to get them set but that's what works for me. Good Luck

This is what you should do, in this order

1. Uninstall everything to do with ATI
2. Download and install driver cleaner pro. Run it and the included cab cleaner through all the ATI filters and WDM etc.
3. Download Catalyst 5.4 drivers, the official ones
4. Download Mutlimedia Center 9.06.1
5. Install 5.4, make sure it works OK (i.e. no yellow question marks in device manager)
6. Install MMC 9.06.1 and see if it works

Thats what I did and it works well.

I wouldn't bother with Omega's if you just want things to work prolem free with little tweaking

The general rule is the farther you stray from the official driver path, generally the more you'll have to be willing to tweak things yourself, so this route at least offers the hope of ATI support...smalle hope it may be though.

Thought I would post what worked for me. I also experienced the problem after I reinstalled xp pro with sp2 and the latest ati drivers.

Tried the MS hotfix, uninstall-reinstal, no luck.

After mucking around the net I ended up back on the ati site where I found a thread about setting up the sound option for the tv. You do that by clicking on the box with the check in it on the tv control panel (the blue panel that comes up when you start the tv that allows you to change channels etc). Of course I had already set this up initially...

I have the tv wonder pro and use a SB Audigy 2 sound card. I have the sound out on the tv card plugged into the line in of the sb card as the tv setup wizard instructs.

Click the checkbox. In dispay tab, select the initialization wizard. What I did was ended up trying all the different inputs. When I tried the "analog mix (line/cd/aux/tad)" choice, there was some clicking sounds and when I checked the tv the sound and video were in sinc.

Have no idea why this works and the line in option doesn't, but after hours looking and trying things I don't really care.

Hope this helps somebody.

I too bought a TV Wonder Pro, and I have this same issue. Difference is I have a Geforce FX 5500 PCI. The software ATI has is garbage. I had to uninstall my Nvidia drivers in order to install the TV Tuner and software. Now everything lags. It doesn't lag when I use Dscaler. Go figure.
