ATI MMC - does it suck?

Hey guys, i'm just wondering if maybe I have it installed wrong somehow, but is it just me or is ATI MMC *REALLY* subpar compared to the Catalyst drivers? I find it crashes often, takes over file formats it can't play (streaming asf) and just generally feels really "cheap".

I use it with my 9800 Pro for watching dvds and the TV Wonder for watching TV. It seems that no matter what version i've installed over the years, i've always found it to be pretty weak. The ATI DVD decoder is nice, and the catalyst drivers themselves are very good, but it's just MMC - it feels very inconsistent with the quality of the rest of ATI's stuff. Maybe they need to re-launch it or replace it with an entirely rewritten package.

What are your thoughts?

I've only used it for TV and that's been stable and working well enough, though I would have enjoyed more options for how the interface is handled. For movies and stuff I used other software like MediaPlayerClassic that is so awesome that I wouldn't bother trying anything else anyway.

Personaly ive found the only decent way of watching some dvds or other interlaced material is through WinDVD. No other program comes close to intervideos DeInterlacing in forced progressive mode. WinMediaPlayer isnt bad, but its not great either and anything using cyberlink codecs just plain sux.

Forceing bob and weave deinterlace shows a clear difference in quality between them, but forced progressive works out best. (the difference is very clear after grabbing interlaced material to mpeg2 dvd quality through the MMC and vivo)

On my P4 2.8Ghz with my AIW 9600XT MMC is not a stable program. TV crashes very often and that is even after reloading XP two times. The rest of the programs work of most of the time. I found that if I create another username and log on to that, it seems to be more stable. The second user has all the same programs and settings, so I find this unusual. I have never found MMC to be stable. I tried upgrading to 9 and it screwed everthing up. I ended up reloaded windows again. Still, have hope in ATI, but i really dont know why.
