Help with Ati's Tv Wonder Video Capture

First-time post.

Just the facts, ma'am.

I'm running a P4 3.2 Dell. State of the art 6 months ago.

The video card's a Radeon 9800.

I've got a ATI freakin' TV Wonder PCI VE and I can't, for the life of me, get the thing to digitize video.

I want to convert VHS stuff to DVD. The most current software I've doanloaded from ATI; MMC 9.1, WDM 6-14-10-6201v1, Direct X9, you name it. The works. One thing I've consistantly noticed: every time I install the MMC software, if you do an advanced intsallation and look at the apps that are about to be installed there's never a 'Digital VCR' option to check off or not.

I've downloaded every conceivable driver and patch and everytime I run the 'Diagnostic' in MMC, the 'Video Capture Driver' test fails.

Another point is that in the 'Diagnostic Report' it always finds a proplem with the DVD-R and the CD-RW drives. I don't know if this is relevent.

All I want to do is be able to see the 'Digital VCR' tab on the 'Settings' tabs in MMC (WOW!) and be able to run the 'Diagnostics' test and not have the 'Video Capture' test fail over and over again.

AHHHHH!

My apologies, in advance, fir any protocol I may have skipped. But I need help and I am, at least, capable at driving to and arriving at the answwer I'm looking for.

Cheers!

you may need to isntall the MMC off the disc it came with and then upgrade, rather then strictly isntalling from the internet

You're going to need this file - I had a rough time finding it and it solved my problem with the MMC 7.9 install...

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/tvw-pci-...r-1-11-0-0.exe

You may just want to try to install this and see if it fixes your problem, but save this file in a safe place anyway - it's the capture driver for your exact card.

PJ's advice is just like what ATI says too BTW - these things are tricky - I have one too...

Hi swimtech.

Thanks for the link but it didn't work. No matter what I do, the 'Video Capture Test' fails in the diagnostic. It's driving me crazy. The thing that pisses me off the most is that the digital VCR worked fine for digitizing video. It was an audio problem. After loosing some hair on the subject I removed everything, pulled out the card and started from new. Now there isn't even a digital VCR to install.

Any ideas?

Even trying the original CD that came with the tuner? Strange...

a fresh isntall from the CD should work

Try unisntalling ALL ati software, including video card drivers, and then reinstall in this order:

-Catalyst Drivers
-TV Wonder CD

PrOdigal jenius,

When you say Catalyst Drivers, the one I downloaded is: wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-111-050222a-021277c.

Also, after I remove all ATI related software/drivers including the video card stuff, when the computer reboots, it automatically detects the card and installs the drivers for it.

After this is done, reinstall in your above mentioned order?

I dont know if its the same thing (as ive not seen the Digital VCR), But in my case using latest 9.06 mmc.(using VIVO) I capture through the TV(VideoIN) application and it has record functions in there.

Again, please try the software from your original CD for your tuner after you get the video card part working OK.
