ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 not recording in wmv?
I have the ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0.
And everytime I try to record in wmv format, the video gets incredibly jerky / choppy and completely stops. As a matter of fact, whenever I changed the settings (Map Preset) for the record to anything but "Handheld , MPEG 4", I get that same jerky video regardless of whether the the record settings are higher or lower than that. Anyone have any ideas? Are there some drivers I need to update? Is there a fix for it? Is this a WMV problem or an ATI problem? |

Maybe you should check ATI's website for drivers....and it could also be that you don't have USB 2.0 ports enabled/don't have them at all. However if you do, try updating USB 2 drivers (good luck finding some)....other than that I blame your USB controller or poor machine performance perhaps.
Also try closing everything in the background when recording

Yeah I have USB 2.0. Why would my USB controller be the problem when trying to record to .wmv? I can record to .avi and .vcr with no problem as long as I have it set to "Handheld". If the controller was the problem, wouldn't it be unable to record in any format?? Is there something specific about wmv and the USB 2 controller??

Wel it could be that the controller lags, handheld is alot less bandwidth consuming than HDTV moves and such...that was my suspicion, which is why I also said poor machine performance.

I think it maybe a WMV problem since I've seen the same thing capturing video's for work. Pain in the butt, though you can always convert them later to wmv. Why do what that particular format anyway?

Because apparantly it compresses really well. I think DivX or XviD works just as well

Actually Divx or Xvid work quite a bit better. Plus I was asking in reference to compatability.

Well WMV is compatibile wherever there is Windows Media Player which is alot of places.
But XviD is by far better, can't beat Open Source Software |
