Horrible Speeds! For the love of Christ...

So, I recently purchased this A-I-W 9800 Pro from eBay, I'm not stupid when it comes to computers and his thing was brand new, even the remote was still in the package.

So, I took it out and checked it...

Yeah, it had some tiny tale-tell dusty spots on the I/O guard, but other than that, looked fine. The previous owner even had installed an Artic Cooler on it. It was looking like one hellava buy for 160 bucks.

I got it installed and working, the Remote, everything worked flawlessly.

Then came the driver issues.

I have 5.6 Omega's installed, and I ran Half-Life 2... Now I may sound stupid saying this, but I couldn't get a FPS count to show, so I can't say exactly what I got. But even with all the setting thrown on the lowest it can go and it's still running choppy (Like 12fps choppy...)? I think we might have a slight problem...

The TV tuning program is shot now too. Won't start. And it's all out of sync. Wow. What a day.

Can anyone help me out? I don't have any basis of comparison for any other game, but a freakin' AIW 9800 Pro with optimal cooling? RUNNING LIKE COMPLETE HELL? I'm out of ideas. It's almost 1 and my brain is fried from dealing with this peice of machinery for the past 8 hours.

Someone, anyone, give me some feedback!

try using driver cleaner and follow the instructions for reinstalling the drivers

also did you compleatly uninstall the drivers from the old card before installing this new card

grab driver cleaner and try a clean driver install first http://www.drivercleaner.net/

Thing being in the wraper means nothing for example I have my own cables and so when
I buy a motherboard and use if for how ever long when I sell it. I clean it and put it back
in the box looks "brand new" cables sealed and all that then I sell it on ebay as used...
So the remote being sealed just means the previous owner didn't use it or used a universal.

The dust and new cooler tell you righ there is't not new and used for god knows
how long. Sounds like they bought it and overclocked it, Or had it long enough that
the fan died.

Far as you know it a 9800pro flashed and overclocked to 9800XT, part of the dangers
/risks of buying on ebay.

But if everything seem fine it should be all right. AIW cards are slower then thier non
AIW cousins. Also your system has a big bottle neck for that card the 1800+ (1.53 GHZ)CPU + the PC2700.

install something like rage3d tweak / ATI tool & see what the cards clocked at...
Look whats the all the numbers/letters off the ram as well as the brand...
Whats the part number printed on the card?, Who made the card ATI or 3rd party?

They're at stock speeds. Core - 382, Mem- 337.

It's an official ATi card.

:/

I got everthing working, and it works fine. But Half-Life 2 still runs like crap. And I have npo clue what to do about it...

Oh, and SmartGart won't keep it's settings. I'm guessing that's a bad thing...

Stock is not 382, its 378.

I bet you the card was voltmodded or something (Hence the AC), burnt out, then sold for a cheap price.

I messed it up. You got it. The Stock voltages I mean. ATiTool?

So anyway... I cleaned out the stuff, and I let indows install it, and then installed the Omega Drivers.

Everything runs fine.

Half Life 2 still lags in some areas... Bottle neck?

Depends on the rest of your system

If HL2 lags its more likely Valve's stupid patching. I used to get stutters on an X800XT until I adjusted my PCI video card latency

Its very possible. I had it on mine. AiW's are no different or less sensitive to those kind of things than any other card is what I find.

Off the top of my head I know Rage3D compares the AiW X800XT to an AiW 9800 Pro, but if you want a quick and easy rule for comparing them: Its the exact same except it includes a TV tuner and all the in/out gear. Other than that the retail package has a Remote Wonder but so far as that, thats essentially the only difference (Other than sometimes only having 1 monitor out port)
