Pissed Someone please help me, please!

Ok here are my specs

1.6 ghz computer, pentium4, windows 98 SE, a newly installed fresh hard drive, and a ATI 9600 xt card which has been installed.

Here is the kicked though. WHen I capture in a MPEG or avi file at any size, the motion is very odd. The video has strange lines running through it as if frames are overlapping and the card cant handle the motion, but it makes no sense cause my old card handled them fine???

However the video comes in fine if I capture in at a resolution of 640x240 with the de-interlacing options off and high resolution off. But once again my old video card easily captured in high resolution video, so I dont think my computer cant handle it.

The editing software I used, Ulead Videostudio 5.0 will no longer play any mpeg files at all in the program, and I cannot edit them, this has now happened in light of installing the new video card, and re-enstalling Ulead does nothing?

If there is anyone out there who can help me I would be much appreciated, because I cannot figure out what is doing this and I have spent too much time on this?

Thanks.

What driver revision are you using?

It sounds to me like the dreaded NSP driver issue!

Read through some of the other 9600 AiW threads in here and you might pick up some good suggestions.

Also: DBDexter is right it could be Windows 98SE.

You have DX 9 installed?

yes I got direct X 9.0 installed.

in addition to this if I re-enstall Ulead Videostudio, it works slightly better with mpegs able to play however the software for ATI stops working. But if I then re-enstall ATI then it works but only like before, with avi file sounds out of sync with the video and the mpeg files have these motion blurs (its hard to describe, lines appear when motion occurs) which horribly degrades the video.

I seriously hope its just windows 98se causing the incompatibility cause I have tried all sorts of things to remedy this situation.

Also I my model computer is MDG for anyone interested.

Oh, and one wierd thing also. In the file player for ATI, if I open a file using the player I get a message saying "unable to play file". However if I directly click on the icon of the file then it plays.

Have you tried installing a codec pack?

Windows 98SE wouldn't have come with all the proper codecs for doing heavy duty multimedia so that could be a possibility.

Try to uninstall that codec pack, coz maybe that one is installing some things that u r not using and makes your PC much slower. Anyway .. u can try to make a capture without any audio and video compresion, to see if it works.

I used CyberLink.PowerDirector v4.0 for capture, but u can also use VirtualDub-1.6.9 too, File - > Capture Avi ...

Good Luck !!!

No it won't, the problem he has looks like un-updated codecs to me.

Installing codecs will not slow any reasonably powered machine down period.

Thats akin to not installing things just to maintain a faster PC.....why bother having it if it has no functionality?
