directx9 video capture problems

update: found a great directx9 uninstallerwhich restored dx8.1 from my xp cd,all works well now.

Ok,i have a question,i have a radeon 64 ddr vivo and today i installed catalyst 2.5 and direct x 9.I then had a client call and need some videos capped for their website.

ive capped stuff on occasion for various clients but today when i tried to capture, after i choose stop, the avi file never shows up,it doesnt create the file at all.

Can i revert back to directx8.1?should i revert back to catalyst 2.4?or is something else i can try?

im running xp pro,512 ddr 2100
radeon 64 ddr vivo

thanks for any help!

I would revert back to catalsyt 2.3

The Catalyst 2.3 driver are much more stable than the 2.4 driver set. I have had no capture problems with directx 9.0 with this set and all works great.

Pete,

What's your rig? I know there's a bunch of peeps that are having capture problems with DX 9 and Cat 3.0a. For me though, this is the first set of drivers that has worked properly since cat 2.3 but I use DX 8.1.

I forgot to tell ya what I capture with.

I use Picvideo codecs to capture in avi so that I do not lose any frames. Here is a link to download them below.

Pic video codecs.

You have to register them so you will have to buy them or find a key somewhere.

Then here is what you do after you register the picvideo MJPEG

Then you go to device manager under sound, video and game contollers right click properties on video codecs

Click properties on Picvideo MJPEG

Register there

Increase compression to 18

goto advanced

Increase the 2 fields of line from 240 to 288

Luminance should be 10

Chromo should be 12

subsampling should be 4/2/2

leave everything else alone.

Now startup the TV

go to setup of tv (checkmark button)

then go to digital vcr to set custom click set custom

Click new

Name it whatever you want

Under capture type make it avi click next

then under this next screen change the size to 640 x 480 or 720x480

Change the codec to the Picvideo MJPEG. The right one is the one that comes up that can be "configured" that is the right one

leave everthing else the same

Happy encoding of avi without any frame rate loss.

Make you that you have a very large Harddrive to use this because it can be a big monster after a couple of hours.

Just made a custom of mpeg2 and it does not drop any frames

I just used the basic stuff that is supplied under the customed windows and no frames dropped with it
