Hello,
I have an old ATI TV Wonder card and I didn't try to capture anything until few days ago. When I watch TV or movie from my camera everything is good. But, if I try to capture no sound get recorded. Under properties of my driver for "Audio capture" said that no driver is loaded but it doesn't show that driver is missing or that device is not configured properly. Any idea why I can'r record audio? Thanks |

The device has to be initialized.
Try doing this: Open multimedia center, select the composite in and insert a cable (doesn't need to be connected) then try recording sound from the sound in. |

I'm trying to understand what do you want me to try.
When I try to open Multimedia Center I got options: CD Audio, Configuration, File Player, Launch Pad, Library, TV, Video CD. Where do you want me to select composite in? |

On TV. Then select that as the source for the video in. Then try to record audio as you would otherwise and it should work because now the PC is "listening" for the audio from there.

I tried TV, Composite and S-video and everything I record doesn't have audio. When I watch any of those, TV or Composite-in audio is working. Just recorded segment has no audio whatever I try to record.
please help. |

So you can hear it while your recording it, and the recording plays back ok except no sound at all? I'll check my settings at home this evening and check back...

Whoa, just went to the MMC (haven't used the TV or File Player in a while either...) to check my settings and my computer went by-by - froze solid as a stone - no response...
I'll sort this out in the next couple days, but looks like I can't be of much help at the moment. I'm using a TV Wonder PCI running MMC 7.9 with my DH, uh, Crucial 9600XT - might be time to update to the most recent MMC anyway. In the process, I'm sure I'll get familiar with the audio setup again, so if someone else doesn't help you sort this between now and then (this weekend likely...), I'll be back, but there's several others here who are really great at this stuff... It's all your fault, you know... just kidding...

I got it fixed.
After a week going crazy with this problem I just went Best Buy and bought Mercury TV Tuner card. After setting it up I experienced the same issue. Well. I finally started reading setup manual and I relized that I have to connect TV card with my sound card with one short stereo audio cable. Volia, I got sound afrter I tested recording. It was interesting, so I placed my old ATI TV Wonder card back and I plugged this short audio cable from Audio out on ATI card to Audio-in on my sound card and it worked. Of corse I returned Mercury card back. That was it. I wasn't aware that I need audio cable to connect ATI TV Wonder to my audio system. Thanks verybody for persistent help. |

You knew this was coming...
When in doubt, 'right click', no, sorry, read the manual. Glad she's a-workin'! Mine ain't yet, been fooling with a Dell Lappy with X300 video and the official ATI 5.9 Mobility Driver before I tackle my little problem...

Well, I dumped the MMC 7.9...
I had read here about slow tuning response with the MMC 9.06, and the 9.03 was available for my tuner so I went with that set. The tuner I have is analog, not digital - the tuning response issue looks to be a digital tuner issue - so I likely would not have had a problem anyway, but... Uninstalled the MMC from the 'Add/Remove Programs' control panel applet, also removed the DAO from there as well. Rebooted into Safe Mode, and ran the DriverCleaner to clean out just the MMC items (presently running the Omegadrive 5.9 Catalyst set - didn't touch that stuff...). I did not remove any of the devices from 'Sound, Video, and Game Controllers' section of the Device Manager - left them totally alone. Then, in order, installed the DAO, the TV Wonder WDM/Driver, and the MMC itself (all gotten from ATI as listed on the same page together) - rebooting as prompted. Clicked the TV application, the Initialization Wizard automatically opened and I set the cable type, ran the autoscan for available cable channels, selected the capture format (I chose MPEG 2), then selected the audio input (mine works with Line In...). All went flawlessly, ran the TV - no more freezing. Capture function with the TV works too.
