AIW 9800 TV Tuner: failed to Initialise video error

*sorry disregard the title of the thread, I solved that problem only to be greeted with this one*

Hey there,

I am having problems getting the TV tuner on my AIW 9800 to work.

Running the PC Check I get no errors, everything looks fine except that DMA is not enabled on my hard drive (because it's SATA).

Device manager shows no errors with WDM devices (6 listed in total - 0 conflicts)

I'm on the Catalyst 5.8s with MMC 9.08. I installed the DAO then the MMC just like I'm supposed to. WDM driver version 6-14-10-6246.

ATI's tech support isn't the best so I thought I'd ask here. If you need anymore info let me know.

Thanks in advance

So I managed to get further.

I removed my drivers 5.8s and WDMS and Multimedia Centre, thoroughly using Driver Cleaner and Regcleaner.

I then followed these instructions to install the Cat 5.9s and the new WDMs.
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wdm_59.html

Once I'd done that, I checked for any conflicts or issues, everything was fine. So I installed DAO, followed by MMC 9.08.

Everything installed fine.

Now when clicking the TV button from launchpad I get a "Welcome to TV blah blah" message.

I click next and it takes me to 2 checkmark options:
Fast Search
Extended Search

No matter which one I select, when I click "Next" it just hangs. I examine task Manager after this and it shows MMC using 60 megs, and I cannot end the task unless I shut down my pc.

It's progress, but other than reinstalling everything again and again I don't know what else I can do, and it isn't solving the problem.

In the PC test everything is fine, but there is a warning that says:
Remote Wonder not version 1.5.0.0 or more recent

I don't have that installed, but if it's just for a remote I doubt it would be causing this huge crash.

So can anyone suggest something?

Thanks in advance

MMC needs the remote wonder driver to work I believe.

Install it anyway

Hehe, good idea.

It's something to try I guess.

I'll give it a go and let you know.

*edit1*
Remote Wonder software is the one I want.

So this is what I did.

-Removed everything, cleaned up with Driver Cleaner and RegCleaner.
-Installed DAO , Rebooted
-Installed MMC, Rebooted
-Installed Remote Wonder, Rebooted
-Run PC check, no errors

Gonna try it again now. Here goes nothing!

*edit2*

Nope, still doesn't work.

At first it hung on the splash screen. So I had to reboot.
I then disconnected the second display and it got to the same part of MMC before, where it gives you the search options.

But it hung on both of them again.

Don't suppose there are other programs that maybe aren't as temperamental as ATi's that can be used for watching TV on a PC with ATi gfx cards are there?

Try it one more time, with the Official Catalyst 5.9s and support files in order (which contains the WDM for your AIW...) then the DAO, then the MMC. Did you install .Net 1.1 too? I think I remember using DriverCleaner for the driver on my video card once, and had to reinstall the WDM for my tuner again to get it to work for some reason...

You could try uninstalling with the Catalyst Uninstaller (for the Video Driver portion anyway...) on a lark, the DriverCleaner should work ok, but... That file is linked to from the Catalyst Driver page.

Amazingly, none of that seemed to work, but even more amazingly using a program called K!TV, I managed to get it working (I need a better aerial though), but I dunno how to get the sound working.

How would I get sound from an aerial signal? Do I need a specific wire configuration?

Thanks for the response btw

Do you have a little (1/8" - 3.5mm stereo male to male) cable hooked into the line in on your sound card?

Do you mean the one that is part of the 3 way adapter (s/video, composite and the audio jack)?

Do I just link that around to the line-in? I'll try that when I get in, thanks.

Another problem I'm having (surprise surprise), is that TV capture will not work If I'm using my extended desktop feature.

If the composite+Scart is plugged into the TV, I get an error when trying to use any TV capture program. If I unplug the TV out and reboot TV capture suddenly works.

I get an error to do with the Overlay, I will post the exact error message as soon as I get home.

Thanks again.

*edit*

Never mind I found the problem.
