Hell, getting LUCAS ELECTRICS working on my old TR-3 (many, many moons ago) was easier than getting an AIW to work

The ONLY time my X800XT ever worked right was just after I first installed it using the drivers that came on the original CD. Unfortunately, I managed to trash that CD, and can't re-install using it.

I sure would like to find an ISO of the original CD that came with the AIW X800XT (hint, hint).

Well thing with that is that the only reason the CD is good is for the DVD Decoder authentication which the ISO is no good for (tried and it didn't work)

Thumbs Up! new card is working after RMA

Folks, I used DriverCleaner to remove all ATI related entries. It seems to have cleaned out everything except a few protected files under the \system32\ folder. I don't think drivercleaner has the ability to clean out the protected files because they keep reappearing. I decided to proceed anyway...

I installed the new AIW9600XT card that I got back from RMA.

I installed the display drivers from Cat 6.2. The file was called "6-2_xp-2k_dd_30152".

After installing it asked me to reboot. When I rebooted, XP came up and warned me that the "ATI WDM Rage Theatre" stuff was not registered by Microsoft. It asked me if I wanted to continue and I said Yes. It then said "this file (some .dll) is older than the file that already exists, do you want to replace?". I said yes. This happened about 4 times.

I thought this was ONLY the display driver, but somehow it also installed the RAGE WDM stuff it looks like.

I went into Device Manager to have a look under Sound and Video controllers and all the ATI WDM stuff is listed and installed properly! (no yellow exclamation marks!)

I was planning on installing the other files that came with cat 6.2 (WDM and CCC) but now that everything looks like it is installed, I'm guessing I don't have to install these other setup files. ("6-2_xp-2k_wdm_30152" and "6-2_ccc_enu_30152"). Weird.

Now I don't have the ATI MMC installed so I didn't know how to check if the tuner/capture was working properly. I decided to use Virtual Dub and Nero Vision to see if I could capture. And the capture is working now! You have no idea how good i feel

I'm not sure how XP installed the WDM devices since I only used the Display Driver application, but it does seem to work now. I'm scared to install MMC, but I understand that MMC 9.08 should work well with Cat6.2. Do I NEED to install MMC? Is there other software I can use to watch and Capture TV properly or is ATI's MMC my best bet ??

Now I really believe that one of the new driver updates (after cat 6.2) effected the 9600XT cards, because I tried this process hundreds of times with my old card and it did not work. Maybe one of the drivers burned out the Tuner part of the card somehow? Who knows. ATI will never tell us I guess. At least they sent me a new card quickly.

Well be glad you've got a new card at least

Howdy folks!

Well, I just had a client this week reporting that his AIW 9600 TV Tuner didn't work anymore. I now have it in the shop here, and wanted to give everyone my 2¢. BTW, I am REALLY really happy not to be discussing Symantec NAV issues this time around! LOL

The problem the machine is having is 100% identical to everyone here. IE: TV failed to initialize, Yellow exclamations on "ATI WDM Rage Theatre Audio" and "ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar".

Before finding this thread, I uninstalled the drivers, and installed the NEW and AMAZING Catalyst (December 14 2006) and latest MMC drivers from AMD. No surprises that it didn't work. It removed the WDM crap and installed the T200 driver. No exclamation marks. However, "TV failed to initialize". I did get it working by simply doing a "repair" of the AVIVO driver (by going to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\...). However, the TV image is extremely lagged (6 second delay at least and choppy) and the sound is also choppy/stutters. Also, the FM tuner just screaches noise. Quitting the FM application, the screaching stops and the last channel stays on nice and clear.

I suppose this is due to ATI's change in the WDM drivers to the T200 driver. It seams that it abandons the Line-In port (using the stereo 1/8 cable on the videocard header) and rather uses a numeric internal coding to transfert sound to the audio system.

Anyhow, I uninstalled all that T200 crap, and reinstalled the good old original CD drivers and it worked perfectly. To get it to fail? Simple. Unplug the PC from the power 115V line, wait 30 seconds to have it completely discharge, plug it back in and boot. BANG. The WDM drivers listed above return to their Yellow Exclamation marks and TV Tuner SNAFU.

As was said, uninstall, reinstall, everything works again until the POWER is removed for at least 30 seconds.

Also, as another important note, the Microsoft Windows Update delivers 2 updates concerning the ATI 9600 AIW card. Both optional, one relates to a "driver" update, and the other to the ATI X10 Remote. Once these beautiful updates install, the card drivers (AIW9600 and AIW9600 secondary) f*ck up, and the ATI Remote driver is out of commision. Does any one think this may be at play here since I believe someone else said the card worked properly under Vista? Who's at fault Microsoft or AMD(ATI)?

The client's computer is based on the ASUS P4P800 mobo, 1Gb ram, 120Gb Max HD, SB 128 PCI, and of course the faboulous ATI 9600 AIW AGP. CPU is an Intel 2.6GHz processor without Hyper-Threading.

The card will work great on a Win Me machine, so it seems to center on XP SP2 and ATI has never been able to correct it.

PandaZ3,

Yeah, now that is an idea. I will attempt to install it using a Windows 98SE platform using same exact hardware. Will post results.

I am suprised because I built the machine about 3 years ago and have to say has been functioning very well since then. The client, a doctor, has been nothing but pleased by its functions for TV and transfering videos into the computer.

Of course, it has a 3 year warranty and that time has come (2 weeks short). Must some sort of built-in time bomb that goes off in the card to encourage purchasing another card. LOL

From what others posted here, I didn't take a chance and filed for an RMA a few minutes ago with ATI (or AMD).

Well the warden really likes it as a video card, she's going to keep it. I wish she would let me have it, as I feel like playing with Win Me again.....
