There is no official SP3, what I think he means is a slipstreamed copy of Windows XP SP2 with an unofficial bundle of all the latest hotfixes

Just wanted to let you guys know that I have been watching this with great interest. I have a 9600xt and an older TV Wonder PCI ATI tuner card. Am presently running the ATI Official Cats (CCC version) 5.11s and the MMC 9.03 under XP SP2 with updates current (and kept that way...). I run the German AntiVir Guard program with MS AntiSpyware simultaneously at startup. Every two weeks or so I run AdAware SE to keep the tracking cookies down and registry stuff eliminated. I don't have any problems at all - including recording video.
When Omegadrive comes out with a CCC version of his driverset I'll probably switch to it just for the heck of it, and leave the MMC alone - will chime in with an update then - or if I change drivers to the DHZeroPoints... From the sound of the problem in general (occuring after a while running...), could that be a memory management problem in the MMC or in the software's interaction with XP?

I think ATI has some serious memory leaks as over time, i'll notice that the PF starts to slowly fill up.. and physical memory will gradually fall.. checking the processes tab.. this accures completely randomly.... It can start right after a fresh reboot, or several days/weeks later... In terms of the lockups.
As for the poor lagging audio/video or other general issues.... it all start when the digital variations came.. where we cannot select the LINE IN on the sound cards as the audio source.. I mean, i made my Metroid Review videos using a gamecube connected to my computer via the AIW.... IF i attempt to do this today, or since the change to pure digital, it's impossible to play, it's like driving a car, but your the backseat driver, and after you tell it to do something, it can take any random amount of time to actually do it. Even actually can end up completely missing. ATM, i can only use my AIW for typical TV use.... i cannot setup the scheduler.. cause it fails to start. It records oddly, i'll startup the recorder.... walk way and come back and see that although only 15 minutes may have pasted.. it think an hour or better has... however, aftering hitting stop.. the file it makes SHOWS that only 15 minutes had indeed passed.. Frankly, the more i dig into the MMC and other included AIW software, the more problems i see in plain view.. and that just look good for ATI's Quality labs inspections at all.

Hah! I just got an AIW x800xt AGP for christmas, and a google search brought me here. I have problems with the TV Tuner aspect of ATI MMC. Everything else works on the card, if you call significantly low frame rates and constant lock ups when using 3d applications working.
ATI has seriously killed any interest in me for their products. Hell, when I registered the card and sent a support ticket, I was told I got a 'response', but never did. Calling them up was futile, since I got a busy signal. I responded to the support ticket with extreme angst and now it has been a 'work in progress' for about 3 days now. This is a recap of everything I have gone through, as well as detailed info about my machine. So, heres my rig: -Mobo: Soltek 865Pro2-FGR; VIA Velocity Gigabit; Promise 478 RAID; Realtek AC'97 Snd. -Processor: Intel P4 2.8EGHz with HT enabled, at stock. -RAM: 1.5GB DDR400 2-3-3-5 at 2.9V 1x 1GB 2x 256MB -HDD: OS: 2x 82.3GB Hitachi Deskstar in Performance RAID on int. SATA ; 5x IDE drives in JBOD RAID (2 on int. RAID) -SCSI: Tekram DC-395U -CD-ROM: aOpen COM5332 IDE; HP CD-Writer+ 9200 SCSI; Yamaha CRW4260 SCSI -Video: AGP AIW x800xt; PCI nVidia MX4000 64MB (no OC) -Monitors: 2x Viewsonic PF790; 2x FPD1520 -Sound: Integrated 5.1 AC'97 Codec; PCI Creative Soundblaster Live! -Other: iOmega zip250 SCSI; PCI D-Link G510 WiFi; Fellowes AT Keyboard; Smart 850 UPS via COM port -USB: Zippy EL Keyboard; Microsoft Intellimouse; Lexmark X83; 14GB rem. drive OS wise I'm running a lite version of XP Corp (I have a legal copy of Pro) latest direct x, latest drivers and etc. I have the latest bios version for my board, latest bios version for both raid cards, and I'm in the process of upgrading firmware for the cdroms and hdd's. This lite version of the OS doesn't exempt any system files; it just doesn't have some manufacturer drivers typically included with Xp, but I have however streamlined them with this version. All it has is just about every system tweak for Xp and all the help files removed, along with WMP and some other annoying Xp Utils. All in all, its really amazing; it lets one install Xp on lower end machines with reasonable performance gain, and boot times are much faster, and I shutdown in 4 seconds ![]() Okay, so heres my AIW blunder story. I got it for x-mas to replace my FX5500. I removed the drivers and the card and installed the x800xt. Downloaded the latest cat drivers and the card worked, crappily. I figured that I should do a reformat of things and redo the comp with the new card. Reasonable enough, right? So I raid the 80gb satas (I got one for x-mas) so now they are in performance raid (I forget the number). Install Xp, update. Installed mobo drivers. Installed .NET Runtime 2.0. Installed ATI drivers. Installed Nvidia drivers. Still didn't work as fast as I hoped, and the TV Tuner problem occured. Opening up the TV Viewer from MMC gave an error, and wanted to run the PC Check Utility. The only thing it complained about were my virtual drives and my scsi drives, which didn't have UDMA. I ignored it, and tried to fire up Radio. Didn't work either. I went to the ATI website, which said I should uninstall MMC and the WDM drivers for ATI. I did that, reinstalled the drivers, then reinstalled MMC. Still no go. I removed everything ATI and did it again with Drivercleaner Pro. Reinstalled. Nothing. Removed and disabled everything nVidia, Reinstalled ATI stuff. Nothing. Removed everything AGAIN, installed Omega Drivers. Nothing. Tried the NGO drivers. Nothing, but small performance gain with them in 3d apps. I decided to try and troubleshoot the performance problems with the card in games such as hl2. I assumed that the sound card might be sucking away performance, so I set my primary sound card to be the PCI one. No increase. I checked BIOS settings, HDD transfer was 32bit, AGP aperature was 256MB...everything looked good. I OC'ed the proc, benchmarked, no significant gain. Repeated with RAM, still nothing. Did both at the same time. Nada. I figure still that the processor was holding me back somehow, but I'm doing a case mod and after that, I would have a peltier cooling system, so I ignored it. I formatted and installed xp again. I updated Xp, installed drivers (nvidia card still disabled), then installed all the ATI stuff. The ATI installation from CD installed everything but the display driver, so removed everything, DriverCleaner'd it, then reinstalled. Worked fine. tv tuner still didn't work, so I removed it all, drivercleaned it and reinstalled the latest and greatest from ati, following the install link from ati's site, mentioned earlier in this thread. Outcome? Still nothing! I registered the card with ATI meaning I can't return it, so I'm at their mercy to help me with this damn thing. It's infuriating because the WDM drivers APPEAR to work considering that in device manager 'ATI TV Tuner' is listed, but for some reason apps like MMC and Dscaler work. I'm almost positive that the fact that I'm using a modded version of Xp isn't interfering with the TV Tuners ability to function because I used to have a Hauppage Tv Tuner installed, and it worked like a charm. So yeah, /me is angry with ATI. When/if I get a response to this trouble ticket I'll make sure I include a link to this thread, so our nice ATI pals would know they are messing up with the AIW. I'd love to get it to work correctly, and would love to be a beta tester. Any suggestions for me? |

1. It might help if you remove your Mobo battery, unplug the power cord, put your CMOS jumper to reset (Leave it there till you hit the front power switch on the case, with the cord still unplugged) that will discharge risdual power in the PSU capacitors. Now put the CMOs jumper back to normal, put the battery back in and plug it in and restart. This will give the BIOS a better shot at refreshing and recognizing installed devices.
2. I think that ATI responds to you on the website and you might have to fiddle around in your "My account" to click on some thing and it will show the history... I did it last year and forget now... Just a Ex-ATI fanboy trying to help another Ex-ATI fanboy

Microsoft recommends ATI hardware for Vista
Posted by [NT] on Sunday, January 08 @ 12:09:26 CET Warp2Search News WE MANAGED to see a rather interesting Microsoft document that recommends to people who want to show off Vista to use ATI over Nvidia. It says that: "ATI is preferred to Nvidia at this time due to superior driver support". It turns out that the real Vista Beta 2 is still a few weeks away and that the beta 2 we saw was the December build, a beta 2 but not the complete one. More at the Inq => (comments? | News | Score: 0) 70 reads. "WHAT" You GOTTA BE KIDDING. UNREAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

OMFGod !!!, still running "unattended SP3" Happily except as reported earlier, the Upgade over SP1 changed my WDM_SP to NSP and the usual NSP probs happened except TV freezing took about 40 min or so but not always. Last night I DL'd CAT WDM 4.10 (no MCE,SP2 crap) and Upgade changed my WDM_NSP to SP!!!,>>>> I HAD TO UNCHECK the Compatible box to get this to happen <<<<< and SOB IT TOOK AND WOKING GREAT, GoodGodAlmighty, no more delay, stutter, crash,DVD fine and Capturing GREAT. Evidently "COMPATIBLE" is a vague term as are the malfunctioning nsp crap. I have XP SP3 or at least SP2+ with CAT 5.10 DD / 9.1.0.0.DAO-MDAC / CAT4.10 WDM_SP "Theater" on MMC 9.06. DVD is CAT 5.10 based. I ASOLUTELY CANNOT FRIGGIN BELEIVE IT, Clone it and FORGET IT. I also have DirectX9c and Net Framework 2.0 which means I can prob get CCC on here, I'l take'r as is THANK YOU. Prevoiusly I NEVER unchecked the frigg'n COMPATIBLE box before !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() I have NOW played with this, talked to ATI un-support,SP1,2 and 3,DX9A,B,C, Net Framework 1.1 & 2. SP2 "CHANGES" a properly configured "my system" setup to WDM_NSP WITHOUT driver changing. Display drivers Omega or ATI don't matter, DAO MDAC is Roxio target as installing Roxio v8 crashed my working sys and started me on this mission when I had to format and play hell. Screw Roxio's junk and that leaves WDM issue. Last week I installed NFS-most Wanted on my PC with NFSU and NFSU2 and ruined Firefox and Outlook Express. ATI's suggestion of turning off HT- NOPE, Mobo Bios-NC, ..... UNCHECK COMPATIBLE on WDM Driver - FOOTBALL,BEER and PIZZA TODAY.. YES !!!!!!!!!! Asus P4P800 deluxe/P4 3.0 800/1g Kingston PC-4000/On Board sound biosed out to turtle Beach Santa cruz/ATI AIW 9600 Pro-128/Happauge Nexus-s/Plextor PX-708A and Lite-On 832s/Sony 500PS and ViewSonic PJ-860 projector. Exact sequence as I FIXED HDD Clone #2.
Settings,Control Panel,System,Device Manager,Look for "Sound,Video and Game Controllers" and double Click to OPEN, Go to "ATI WDM RAGE THEATER VIDEO NSP" and RIGHT CLICK to "Upgrade Driver", Hardware Update Wizard opens and click " NO, Not this time, NEXT, Click - install from a list or specific location (Advanced) , NEXT, unclick - Search removable media AND unclick "Include in this location..." Now click "Don't Search, I will choose ... NEXT,>>>>>> Look for BOX, Says " Show compatible hardware" and UN-CLICK IT <<<<<<<, NOW you will see the Drivers available. I am NO expert and I am describing MY system etc BUT, you will no doubt SEE - ATI WDM RAGE THEATER VIDEO in the list. These are the ONES that always work for me. Double click on that and you WILL get a warning that they may NOt work, WE KNOW NSP WON"T, By GOD the SP's will. You can change them back if you have other issues. NOTE, I DID NOT uninstall anything, only changed the drivers for WDM. I have now done it twice and am typing this up for others as I did them. Best of LUCK and BEER and PIZZA 4 U. I would try that, but I already have my AIW 9600XT doing video card only duty in a Linux machine.

I have FULL CAT 5.13's MMC 9.08 running PROPERLY. i don't know what CCCenter is good for but see many issues on that, No Thanx I;ve already been there and back to TV Cature,YES, BEER and PIZZA. |

Catalyst Control Center doesn't like to load (sits at intro screen). I'm going format and use a regular copy of Xp Pro, then see if I can use kbuzzard's method. Will report findings if differs from kbuzzards (surely I'm not the only one with an AIW x800xt with these problems)
Also, since installing this particular card I've been locking up in 3d applications....is it normal for a crash to reset your BIOS? |

XP Pro, if you mean SP1 will work great. my problem up til now was with SP2, I had a snag with ATI's DVD soft - its gone, replaced by better DVD X Player. TV card etc been running all day, capturing on and off, working great.I may now finally do a virgin XP SP2 install on Clone hdd 3. The ck box unchecked allows you to do what you want. why the hell couldn't ATI GET THIS OUT. I hope you AIW folks get rock'n and ATI owes us all a BONUS, Give it to DH,

I just dug out my Ragged SP2, did same sequence but used CAT 5.10's / MMC 9.06, DVD still prob - uninstalled and added DVD X player. ALL WORKING AGAIN. CAT 5.10 seems to have nicer Driver set- ups etc.
