Ya know, after all this, I am leaning hard on fresh install of good old simple, least problematic SP1. I didn't have all these crazy issues and snags. I now know directX9c and net framework 2.0 are NOT issues nor are Mobo bios, Chipset drivers etc. SP3 has been biggest problem on simple apps. Most programs now are full of fat, i never thought I would see a 400 meg Nero etc. I have NO want for MCE stuff etc so I think when my hdd 2 is done formatting that I will go SP1,add DX9c,Net F v2.0, new Chipset d's and CAT 5.10's overall have been the best for games and MMC. i have researched the Hell out of ATI drivers and MMC9.06 seems best. I DID run CAT 5.13's today and they were OK, they installed same as 5.10's. I am bailing out of Un-official SP3 as it gives more problems and may be causing my ATI DVD software to error no matter which CATs I used today, 4.10/5.10 and 5.13. The REAL issue to me IS, I had WDM_SP on my system and UPGRADING BASIC SP2 "CHANGED" them to WDM_NSP without driver changing, I find this VERY interesting.

BEOFRES, Well If you are sure of the PSU, then is something overheating? How about the house current, if plugged in directly to the wall.

Double Formatted hdd 3 late last night. Fresh XP SP1,Chipset D's,NIC,Sound,DX9C. I chose CAT 4.10 - They are the last SP1 Driver set before SP2 or MCE. They installed PERFECTLY, No intervention. DVD Soft was SAME 5.71 meg DL I got from CAT 4.10,5.10 and 5.13***. As you might expect ALL working, even DVD. MMC 9.02 came with it and TV A+ and have MPEG-4 cature. Now I will have to say that ATI's AIW Drivers are REALLY only correct for SP1, I know what happens now with SP2 and SP3, Steer Clear of SP3 stuff. AS a REFERENCE, An auto detected and installed set up consists of:

ATI WDM Rage Theater Audio
ATI WDM Rage Theater Video
ATI WDM Specialized MVD Codec
ATI WDM Specialized PCD Codec
ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar
ATI WDM TV Tuner

I suspect that in some instances, more than JUST NSP/Video may have to be changed. BUT the above is CORRECT, ANALOG,WORKING Set up "FOR SP1", Possibly correct for SP2 as I had CAT 5.10's working great until ROXIO Media Creator "8" scrambled my hdd.

Gentlemen, now I can say that all these issues are NOT completely ATI, Yes , our M$ Buddies have helped - BECAUSE - If I add SP2 over as upgrade - it goes to crap - NSP. I hope this helps as some of you with newer AIW's and varied systems may need to modify more. SP3 is HORRIBLE about errors and wouldn't allow ATI DVD to run no matter what CATS I used. Have fun gang, hope I've helped. I am NO guru but By God I now by doing whats happening. None of these had ANY impact >>>>>> H.T./Mobo Bios/DX9 A,B,C/ Net framework 1.1 or 2.0/ CATS 2.5 thru 5.13 <<<. Those who have working SP2 or MCE AIW systems either don't use them or they are Blessed By the GODS. P.S. You can install CAT 2.5's !!! on SP2 and it will install the WRONG drivers, unreal.

Well, after some testing and careful installation procedure, I have determined it was the modded version of Xp. Lots of time wasted....I was able to figure this out when I installed my chipset drivers. Soltek hasn't updated my mobo's page, so I used Intel's chipset releases to stay current. Before, when I installed the drivers, the progress bar would fill up and then ask to restart. However, when doing it on unmodded Xp, it actually displayed the file names as they were loaded, and I lost use of my mouse and keyboard for a little while (Both USB). I'm thinking this may have been a major factor. I installed only the latest WDM's and display driver. Installed ATI CP as well. What I didn't do though was use the latest version of ATI MMC. I didn't install CCC either. I manually installed DAO/MDAC, DVD Decoder, and MMC off of the CD bundled with the card. I'm fairly pleased with the the Tuner's performance, though it seems to lag when changing channels and accessing certain menus in the TV App. I had some trouble installing Remote Wonder II. If you install the drivers manually from the CD or from the folder created when you extract the RW software, you lose alot of error messages. I had to use version 2.5, which I installed after plugging in the reciever and giving it drivers. Then I installed MMC. No errors at all! I still need to mess around in 3d games and such to see if I'll crash again.

As for the PSU Issue: I run into a Smart 850 UPS. If my draw is too much I exceed its 850 watt capacity and it complains to me. I don't think wall current is an issue; I run the 500 watt computer, two 19" CRT's and a bunch of other hardware off surge protectors connected to the 3 different wall outlets in my room. I had a lan party recently and in addition to that I had two 500 watt machines, one 480 watt machine, a 17", 19", and two 15" monitors all CRT, running in my room. Not so much as a flicker of the lights when one or two of the machines turn on.
Cooling: I thought the same thing, so I moved my computer to a window with a large fan, so I'm constantly blowing <60 degree air into it. Also replaced thermal paste on CPU with AS5...brought my idle down 10 degrees celsius. Case ambient is about 20-25. ATITool graphs on and off of load never spike about 75. I think my crashes were related to the lack of chipset or other drivers needed for the card. I have my doubts though

Will report further findings as I well....find them. I hope my ordeal helps someone.

Well the wall wouldn't be the problem... I mean here I get a 100 amp service @ 120V.....which is a hell of alot.

Just a quick update: I made a new partition and tried using Windows 2k with some WDM drivers there... looks pretty good so far though I'm using what came on the CD

I installed from the CD that came with my card and it worked- well at least it opened. . but the video lagged from TV.. When capturing (or viewing live) in Media player Classic, no lag at all.

I updated everything.. And now this-

That happens with ALL MMC programs... but I can still get video in through media player classic.. I can play PS2 games on my monitor even, no lag at all. In MMC TV there is a nasty lag, even when it worked, which it doesn't now anyway.

WTF, ATI has not responded at all to this thread?

Question, does Nvidia Vivo work any better? Why does ATI sell AIW and VIVO cards when they obviously don't work?

X800XL vivo.. SP2

Why do the updates completely crash though?

Strange.. I will have to uninstall everything and go back to the CD software, even though it is outdated..

When reviewing ATI's install guide, it specifically says that if you don't have an X1800 or higher, you must use 9.02. Suffice to say, it was a pain to find that specific version..at least for me. The ATI site needs a major redesign. When downloading AIW Radeon drivers and software, there is no note to download MMC 9.02 if you have less than a x1800, meaning you'll get problems, have to search for the problem, google up the problem, find this thread, and then look for MMC 9.02. If my memory serves me right, when when I was looking for MMC 9.02 in MMC's previous versions list, I couldn't find it! It'd be nice to just go to ati.com, > Drivers & Software > Windows XP > AIW > Radeon x800xt and be able to see *everything* for that particular card. Can't be that hard, can it?

Maybe then people will get the correct version, it will fail to work, and then there will be no excuse?

I got the correct versions for my card, I know that. It doesn't work at all..

Funny thing is MMC is supposed to be unified and backwards compatible to an extent like the Catalyst Suite

IMPORTANT!

For All In Wonder Series users, the version of the ATI Multimedia Center that you install will depend on what All In Wonder product you have.

If you have All In Wonder 9000 or higher, you can use the current version of the ATI Multimedia Center.

If you have All in Wonder Radeon, All In Wonder 7500, All in Wonder 8500/DV you will need to install ATI Multimedia Center 9.02. To download the software, you will need to be logged into the Customer Care website. Navigate the categories on the left side of the page to get to the previous drivers and software link or perform an advanced search for Topic ID #737-1328.
ATI SITE REDESIGN PLZ

Edit: Sorry, misunderstood your post, I thought you meant for 9xxx and under

Funny enough my friend's ATI TV Wonder card won't let him install MMC over 8.5.

What gives.

I want MMC 10 like...now....and for it to pwn.

Maybe they've been slacking then preparing for the grand unveiling of the MMC 10 series that will pwn all!

Or not

Hope to help clarify

Those of you with:- TV Channel Change Delay, Audio dip or stumble, non-working "on Demand", No Video Capture need to get RID of WDM_NSP drivers in device Manager, Open or double click on "Sound,Video and Game Controllers" and right click on "ATI WDM Rage Theater Video NSP" and choose - Upgrade Driver, Next Window - Click "No,Not This Time",Enter Next,Next window,Install from a list or specific location, Next READ and take your time, Click, "Don't Search,I will choose the driver to install, Next - NOW, VERY IMPORTANT ***. Look for little Check Box that says, "Show Compatible Hardware" UNCHECK IT !!!!, You THEN will see "Like the old Win 98 days "Manuafacturer" table and "Model", In my AIW 9600 Pro case picked Manuafacturer "ATI" and right panel has MANY options, Find ATI WDM Rage Theater Video - "Get rid of the Digital Audio mode right here folks !!!!, Choose it and finish. You can change this over and over again, NO NEED to uninstall ANYTHING else. This may not fix everything BUT 90% of the time the TV app returns to un delayedl, non-stuttering operation. $ of my buddies and I find AIW 9600 and 9800 can't tolerate Video NSP = Digital. XP or SP Video is Analog. If all fails, go back redo, put stuttering foul Video NSP's back. My XP SP1 and SP2 hdds are now fine. Cats below 5.11 appear better and MMC 9.02 are AOK. ATI 's website is anightmare to get drivers BUT they are there and we can thank uncle M$ for our NSP stuff, READ my previous posts, I'm not making this up. Good Luck.

Still, it doesn't work.. the drivers are all F'd up man. The software is broken. If it is that complicated and delicate and sensitive to install.. it's basically useless.

EDIT

ATI's website sucks. They worked when I tried them in a new window, but you need to be "logged in".... then the links work..

I just went to the drivers page and followed the links for multimedia center.

Damn, I used to be such a big ATI fan, after this CCC mandatory stuff, the lack of custom resolution, and now this Vivo software fiasco... I don't know if I will be getting another ATI card or not. I am sure NV has it's problems too, but this is ridiculous. I need to use modded drivers and old software just to use my card like I want... and it still doesn't work right even when it does work (I am sure it's because the outdated software that came on the disc)..

Oh well.

HOW to GET to OLD Drivers AND HOW to FIX

ATI Website http://www.ati.com/ , Drivers and Software, Windows XP Drivers and Software, ALL-IN-WONDER, Note** Under RADEON
1, Catalyst 5.13 ...
2,ATI Multimed ...
MORE, Now look in the window on the LEFT side of the page,

Windows XP
RADEON
Previous Drivers and Software
ALL-IN-WONDER
RADEON
Previous Drivers and Software <<<<<<<<<< YES, Click THERE, On the LEFT side

You will see ATI MMC 9.08.9.06.1,9.03,9.06 CAT5.1,5.2,10,11,12 and 13
**Below all that** at the bottom of that list you will see
<< Previous Page1 of 2 Next >> YES CLICK THERE "On Next"
There you will find CATS 5.3,5.4,5.6,5.7,5.8,5.9 AND THE BOTTOM LINE SAYS
RADEON Previous Windows XP Drivers and Software versions prior to CAT 5.1 and MMC 9.03 <<CLICK "ON that LINE***
YOU will see ALL LISTED CATS from the START, YEA , I recomend you DL a few.

NOTE XP SP1 was CAT start to CAT4.10. < WDM_XP and then WDM_SP. Starting at CAT 4.11 Win XP SP2 and MCE started and WDM_NSP shows it ugly head.
If you have XP SP1 and install CATS 4.10 down the WDM_xp or sp will install "AUTOMATICALLY".
If you have XP SP2 and install CATS 4.10 down the WDM_NSP "ALWAYS,ALWAYS installs Automatically, YOU HAVE TO FORCE it OUT !!!

FIX SEQUENCE GO TO--
Settings,Control Panel,System,Device Manager,Look for "Sound,Video and Game Controllers" and double Click to OPEN, Go to "ATI WDM RAGE THEATER VIDEO NSP" and RIGHT CLICK to "Upgrade Driver", Hardware Update Wizard opens and click " NO, Not this time, NEXT, Click - install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
, NEXT, unclick - Search removable media and Now click "Don't Search, I will choose" ... NEXT,>>>>>>**** Look for LITTLE CHECK BOX BOX, Says " Show compatible hardware" YOU MUST DO THIS and UN-CLICK IT**** <<<<<<<, NOW you will see the Drivers ATI in Left Table and look for "ATI WDM Rage Theater Video", select them, Analog Audio choice YES Finish out and see what ya got. TV channel change - immediate !!, Ck Capture,On-Demand etc.

GO for it ALL, Un-Istall ALL ATI in Add and Remove, Use DH Driver Ckeaner Pro, Clean ALL ATI entries, Careful if you have ATI Mobo etc, Re-Install, Try some CATS out,YEA Even 5.13 !!!, MAKE THE ABOVE CHANGE EACH REINSTALL !!! Ive now done this a lot, Clean Drivers are preferred but above should give you a clue to YOUR case situation.

Every WDM Driver HAS a WDM_XP,SP or NSP CHOICE, YOU have to CHANGE IT

AND !! If you "Upgrade SP1 to SP2 the WDM_xp or SP gets OR got changed to WDM_NSP AUTOMATICALLY YES, MICROSOFT DOES THAT !!!!!!!!
I have played with CAT 5.13 display.DAO-MDAC,CAT 4.10***-a VERY GOOD WDM_SP ONLY Driver*** and MMC9.02,9.03,9.06,9.08's with Varying results - SP2 is NOT FRIENDLY TO US AIW PEOPLE IN ANY WAY PERIOD _ WARNING, ATI DOESN'T AGREE BUT THEY WON"T FIX IT EITHER< CUSTOMER NO SERVICE
I REPEAT IF you are running XP SP2 "YOU" have to force WDM_NSP "OUT". My AIW 9600 Pro came with CAT 2.5's on CD, WDM_XP - IT WILL WORK, BUT CAT 4.10 WDM_SP is 2 years newer. I have read to beware of MMC 9.06 + for Macrovision issues etc. MMC 9.02 has MPEG4 Capture and works fine. I recommend you NOT use CCC and Always install drivers as 1) Display, WDM,DAO-MDAC, IF NEEDED< FIX WRONG WDM_NSP "NOW", Then DVD,MMC.
Note, I have **read** nearly ALL install notes in the last 2 months and Formatted and tried about 25 combo's of drivers.YOUR system,Mobo, wants etc WILL make the choice on what drivers you use. FRANKLY XP SP1,DirectX9C,CATS 4.10 all the way is BEST for ME with 9600 Pro. Sometimes all will work except DVD Encoder - SO what - get another . Good Luck. CATS 4.10/5.11** or Omega dd and whatever, really doesn't matter.

OH, ATI's website will NOT save or link from the "oldies Driver page", Just follow the sequence I gave you, Firefox v1.07 or 1.5 works JUST fine, I got rid OF Nasty IE6 <<<< another M$ nightmare.

WTF!

too -- have to digest that tomorrow.

I did that already though. I got there fine in IE6. I get those errors... but I just have a vivo AGP X800XL..

Media Player Classic still captures fine, so I guess I don't need that BS MMC anyway.

X800XL vivo won't do any HD input though? Not even 480i or whatever?

kbuzzard is on a distinguished road

I just called Mr X at ATI Support and He was VERY interested in hearing this. He said it is "possible" that their sales dept may not want this out BUT I expressed to Him that THE RIGHT thing to do was at least ck this out and do an annymous post HERE to help those who SUFFER, M$s Little "Show compatible Hardware" is MESSING US UP, NOT ATI. I have some new fpond faith that they will do the RIGHT thing !!!!

I want to turn my monitor into an HD TV anyway... I thought I read somewhere about HD signal being input to an ATI vivo card.. maybe it was an X1800 cards only.. it must have been.

Yeah I read an article about HDTV in somewhere.. it must have been x1800 or maybe even x1900..... I wish I could find it.

Anyway, I will have to go step by step with those crazy instructions and see if I missed anything before, but that is exactly what I remember doing before.

Strange the software on the CD worked, but I got that lag.. and the functionality of MMC is limited, I cannot even change the output of the TV in to 16:9.

Great persistence Kbuzzard, keep circling ATI till they crack !! You can say it is the fault of MS$$ but ATI has to make the items they sell us compatible with the OS, not the other way around!! They should be held accountable for this mess. It says on my cards box "Designed for Windows XP". It does not say "Designed for ATI" on my XP Pro SP2 Retail copy of Windows so..... False advertising methinks!? I have no way of removing SP2 from my latest copy of Windows as it is designed into the disk.
