My codecs are screwed. I will probably need to start from scratch to get back to pre-ATI vivo software. I will never install it again. Right now I want to say I will never buy another ATI video card.. maybe I will change my mind, but right now I am pretty annoyed with their crappy software which I used to have great respect for.. After 2005, not so sure.

I hope you used DCPro 1.4 as there was a problem with the 1.3 version which also caused what you are talking about.

I guess it depends...I haven't had any issues like you guys are describing..I tried the latest MMC and Although I like the new features I didn't like the fact that it constantly recorded to my HDD..and I was told there is no way to turn it off so I went back to v9.08...for now. I tried Dscaler..I still play with it from time to time but for some reason it doesn't pickup and tune my channels properly I have to access the Capture driver and punch in the channels that way...Which also give acces to the sharpness control which you cannot get at ion the MMC..but does affect the picture in MMC....any info on the guys?

Check the MMC thread there were good suggestions in there, i.e. Dscaler

Yeah I like Dscaler too- the only thing that sucked about that was ironically I could not scale it to my screen like I can with MPC.. With MPC I can fine tune the aspect ratio and size of the picture so that I get exactly what I want. With Dscaler and MMC I has no options like that.

MPC Media player classic...

I only use it for TV in though- I don't think it will change channels, but it might. I only have vivo- not an AIW.

My retarded mistake

It wouldn't work for me too well, I need a more all in one thing (like what MMC is supposed to do) for my video duties (i.e. convert VHS to DVD)

Just saw this now-- yeah it was the latest DCP.. but the problem happened before that.. it happened when I updated MMC.

Yeah I am going to have to find a program to make some DVD's too pretty soon, as soon as I get my DVD R drive installed...

hey H3X I also want to get into that converting VHS to DVD..as other have asked what app do you use for the actually DVD authoring..like for setting up menus and such..I can copy in the home videos easy enough..but don't know what app to use from there..and if I search I get about 10000000000 differnt apps..but I would prefer suggestions from a person who does this type of thing all the time..any suggestions?

Have you guys come across this? AVG culprit

I've had nothing but problems since I upgraded to the newer ATI drivers and Multimedia. After playing a test game like the trial version of Rise of Nations (either one) my computer would crash within an hour by literally shutting down. When I restarted it and checked my drivers most of the ATI WDM drivers could not start. Tried everything. Even thought it was the Windows Media DRM service so set that to manual. Still crashed any time I played my test game. The device manager could never reenable them unless I shut down my CPU for a day then they would magically be back. Go to test the game and same thing would happen.

I noticed that in the event logs ATI smart and AVG were always the last two events at the time of the crash.

AVG free edition's updater is creating the problem. Seems AVG updates almost daily and asks to reboot to finish its update. When the reboot is done the problem re-emerges. Quite by accident, I ignored the reboot message at startup and everything runs fine, did the same thing four different startups. Problem gone. I figure that the update will do its thing the next time I start up anyways so I now ignore it. Tested out AVG and doesn't seem to affect its usage in its current state. Been pulling my hair out for months searching for answers and thats how I found this forum before I came across this easy fix.

Hope this helps out someone with the same problem of dropping ATI WDM Drivers. I know you were originally on the topic of ATI Multimedia but this may very well be related.

I wish ATI would include some kind of Audio configuration panels. You can't set ANY audio option, well none that I have seen. YOu would think such a application would need fairly in depth Audio configuration...another gripe..

actually, the .net driver crap, and the Vivo non- functionality sealed the deal. I want to actually use the vivo, and the ATI cards just didn't work right, in that respect, ever.

Actually, I still have my 9700pro and my x800xl AGP, so actually I have more ATI cards than Nvidia. I may build up an AGP system and use that x800xl just in case the vivo ever gets sorted.. maybe it would make a good card for a media center PC or something. Put it on a wireless network and beam movies to it's HD and watch them out in the living room.
