Sad AWI 9800 pro.. very big prob.

Well, I was happily playing Quake 4, when i finally got my internet hooked up again and hop online. I just get in a room and BOOM as soon as somone zaps me, my graphics FLIP OUT!!.

It looked like all the graphics were going into a black hole where my crossairs are. I can still play the games but the graphics are messed. so i flip out and restart and then BOOM no screen, the restart again then BOOM distorted windows screen.

so i finally decide to just reinstall my AWI driver. i uninstalled it and it worked fine after that. but when i reinstalled it, it happened again. so i uninstalled it again and left it alone just used it for other stuff without the graph card. bed then one day BOOOOOOM without the driver even installed it had 6 lines of distorted colors flashing in front of the windows background.

So i just started over, wiped everything out, and reinstalled the driver. BOOM nothing was different.

So did somthing fry? oh and also, the 6 lines move and flash every time i bump the computer. yes i tried taking it out and cleaning it.

any help would be much appreciated. im going through battle feild 2 withdrawls.

Ty

Is the card hot to the touch? The last time I saw that, the fan on the video card had stopped working for some time and overheated playing a game.

There is, make sure it doesn't overheat again..

It should freeze before the core melts so long as the cooler is on properly so I doubt the card is damaged but its probly slowly cooking

dont know the name of it.. but i have a wire comming from my monitor to my AWI card.. i have an adapter to make it fit.. could also be the problem.

i pull the wire out and mess with it then put it back in and games work fine for a while.. then the graphics slowly start glitching.. wierd....,

Oh the DVI adapter? Try screwing the adapter in fully and then screwing the monitor into that.

Its a heavy adapter so it would likely come loose.

Try using those screws

Same problem

Hello,
I joined this forum after searching for a long time for a decent place to understand AIW probs.
I thought I was alone.
I am happy to hear I am not alone, but sad to hear no one ever fixed his/hers problems.
Now - I have the same prob with the colored stripes after 10 min of playing a heavy graphical game (Call of Duty 2, Rome total war).
I thought it was the power cord that leads to the Graphic card (internal) and I have changed that one. It helped for a while and then got worse again.
Look, i believe it is 2 reasons that both are hardware problems because ATI didn't build their cards correctly:
1. The DC power that is inputed should be extremely "DC" that means, no major ups and downs in the DC source. I believe if I would buy a good reliable power source, it will be fixed.
2. Some important chip that ATI bought, like the memory on the boards, or the oscillator on the clock is a cheap quality hardware and that couses it to work bad on most machines.

I believe you cannot fix this by reinsatlling drivers and all this other software that you can find on the web.
BUT> I believe you can fix it by buying the correct computer. And I believe we should buy a decent power source and make sure the computer is connected to the ground.
What do you think?

Most PC's won't run if not properly grounded and most PSU's are grounded. Also if the card had parts that were that defective the card itself wouldn't likely POST, that I know from experience
