X800XT Sound Problems and Crashing

I just upgraded from a AWI 9600 Pro......by purchasing a X800XT at least I thought I upgraded!

Now that there is no in line connection and all sound goes through the computer it gets very frustrating. The sound is automatically sent through the
wav channel. So, if you have the sound up... such as for surround sound, then when there is a system sound (mail notifications/reminders) played it scares the crap out of you.

Second problem is when you open another drive in explorer or open the add/remove option there is loud clicking noise and static and then the TV freezes and the only way to cure it is to turn off the computer. It will not reboot using the restart option.

I'm really sorry I purchased this card

I feel for you, don't give up,look here......

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33835127

Read the page, BUT if running SP2 or DirectX 9c, you prob can't force the WDM_SP change without yellow caution,or crossbar "bad" change. I HOPE YOU GET'R Going.

System Specs

Before installing the AIW X800 did you delete the old card (Device Manager) and thoroughly clean out all previous ATI software? The DH DriverCleaner is a great tool for that...

Yes, I used that ATI uninstaller utility. Supposed to remove any and all ATI software and drivers. This maybe a great game card, but for TV it sucks!

The fact that you had a working 9600 Pro AiW is amazing in and of itself....

The best way TBH to be working with AiW cards is to just find something that works and never touch it again, then you don't have to worry about it.

But then again finding something that works these days is hard
