ATI Rep responce on WDM_NSP issue, Last entry

Mr x and I debated over these issues for some 40 minutes yesterday. They ARE aware of the issues but THEY can't repeat at their R&D!, They feel the MAJORITY of AIW user are NOT having issues. He added that CAT's before 5.7 should NOT do this. Our conclusion was moBo Bios and or Chipset drivers. I had installed Intel 865 drivers(11/2005's) so that doesn't hold merit, my Bios "IS" over a year old BUT frankly, I have exhausted too much eye strain, typing etc to now care about using XP SP2. I will keep my XP SP1,DX-9C-(I installed yesterday with NO ill effects, HOORAYY. IT IS worth noting that SP2 appears to merit Bios update and MAY may make a difference in the way the drivers are DETECTED, you will have to decide for yourself. My ASUS P4P800 - Deluxe is older and although I have to "Force" a upgrade to WDM_SP, IT ALL WORKS. I am sticking with CAT 4.10 and MMC 9.02. I have full MMC operation and capture, My games are fine again, today i jacked the 3ghz to 20% OC a+nd everything was still stable. Those of you who HAD working AIW's previous and upgraded cards etc may be Bios crippled as I may BE !!!. I don't know about you but IF IT WORKS, DON'T fix it. As far as SP2, well, Firefox and using CasperXP seems to suit me better.** P.S.** He indicated that HyperThreaded P4's may stop having problems if Dis-abled, I'M NOT going there.... Good Luck AIW Folks. MANY,MANY Thanks to DH for letting me post my gripes, I just wish I could have found the "FIX".

Customer service guys really don't know much and that is the same response you get from every dumbass who can talk on the phone. Comcast did the exact same thing to me, telling me that it was my computers fault. I deal with these problems by just switching to their competitors, to see if they get the point (switched to SBC but their customer service isn't any better, can't even speak english correctly, I have a feeling that they route the calls to customer service reps in India). I won't do this with ATI because NVidia's tv tuner products are a billion times worse.

You get what you give...

Here's an opportunity to post specific and repeatable problems you are having with relation to the installation and operation of ATI's MMC/Driverset software for the All-In-Wonders.

Please keep your comments here concise, providing what you can about the installation steps you took and the problem symptoms - not your determination of the fault itself - OK? It would be good to post your OS Version, Catalyst Driver version, and MMC Version as well.

Thanks for bringing this up here kbuzzard.

Please give ATI solid information so they can help - a good attitude (despite your frustration...) will go a very long way...

Thanks for kind support Swimtech. Your wording is awesome. ATI has come along way in many respects and I have even requested from ATI a FIRM resolve, maybe even as part of CAT 5.13's. What a New Years present that would be !!, CAT 5.13's and WDM etc issues gone. As Swimtech said, help add your probs, I am referencing this Forum as it concerns more than ME and MY system, Join in. Thanks DH, kbuzzard.

UPDATE - I installed DirectX-9B "over" working correctly SP1 CAT 4.10 set with WDM_SP "updated" correct, with NO ILL EFFECT's. I had to do this on installing "Need 4 Speed Underground (included on game CD, NICE!!). NO responce from ATI YET . I linked them to this forum to indicate that "I" or "ME" or My SYSTEM" are not unique to this WDM issue. After hours of reading other AIW problems posts it appears to be a BIG MESS. Folks who install TV Wonders or HDTV Cards along with AIW's really get into a mess. Looks like you go one of 2 ways here
1) XP SP1 CAT 4.10 or 4.11, Do Update and "force"WDM_SP or WDM_XP and use NO MCE ANYTHING including careful sound CARD choice
OR
XP SP2 "We await ATI responce - NO ANSWER
3) MCE ALL,EVERYTHING, some AIW's will work, Most won't. At this point I am working Great with XP SP1 DirectX 9B, and untill ATI fixes mess, I am good 2 go. Go over to Rage3D's forum and read about our poor fellow ATI customers who are in limbo. This is SO SAD, a 4 MEG driver install appears to cause 90% of all these problems, I know, I have had them !!!!!!.
NOTE, I have "Cloned" my "C" and will soon try DirectX 9C on my OS, I will report results, At some point XP SP1 with SP2 (AutopatcherXP) needs to be tried BUT,BUT !!!! only after SP1 is set-up with WDM_SP fixed force, FIRST. Once SP2 is installed, I found NO WAY to Force correct WDM on in any way.

I've narrowed my issue down to where it looks like loading closed captioning data freezes MMC, requiring a system reset before I can try again. This can happen with other apps though as the XP MCE program worked for roughly half an hour before I muted it and CC data was displayed, making it freeze ~ 5 minutes after that.

I could live with this but it seems random and the you guys have done a great job with the Eazyview interface which I prefer over the MCE version. Thanks!

(Clean Install) Windows MCE 2005 / RADEON 9600XT AIW / Catalyst 5.13 / MMC 9.08
P4 2.4 / ASUSp4P800S

EDIT - Sorry ya I fixed my version number, thx

I "JUST" installed DirectX 9C OVER my working setup i.e. - XP SP1,CAT 4.10 set. with no changes. As I play around it is looking more like a SP2 "trigger". ATI HAS e-mailed me back for a Telephone chat concerning this. I am trying as many variations as I can before hand. I will be honest, I am growing LESS FOND of SP2 as I read etc.
I now have AIW 9600 Pro - XP SP1- DX9C- CAT 4.10 DD/DMAO.../MMC 9.02 with Full MMC operating. TV/FM/DVD/Capture etc. I "Suspect,I could upgrade CAT Display up a few notches (scratch that, NOT touching WDM ANYTHING ) but haven't tried. MMC has MPEG4 Capture and it and TV-Demand etc are Fine.

refering to -> http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...0&page=3&pp=15

my way was always the same:

i sat up "windows" on a blank system, deeinstalling the microsoft-shipped AiW-drivers with the ATI-removal deinstallation-tool, manually removingvia the device manager and deleting the *.inf-files for the m$-drivers. then reboot and installing the new drivers from ATI website.

i tried several ways of installation, used several driver & software packs on several mainboards, i tried XP SP1 & SP2, but the TV-issue stays.

i hope they will find a quick and suitable solution. would be nice if you keep us on the run !!!

** 1ST POST UPDATED** and important pint,Maybe

ATI Rep had VERY Valid point on MOBO BIOS. On my Asus P4P800 - Deluxe a BIOS update DOES co-inside with SP2 / MCE introduction. Looks like SP2 was introduced "about" Aug 2004, is your BIOS up to it ? .My FEAR, BIOS update causes system to INSIST on DIGITAL sound card, NOT going there, My old Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is AWESOME for MP3 and Audio work, I'm not swapping it out. You folks judge for yourself, Good Luck Group

I doubt a BIOS can force anything of the sort with respect to digital/analog drivers.... if anything it would have to do with the drivers itself.

I use an Audigy which is fairly ubiquitous.....so I won't know how much issue there should be with such a recent card

Yeah I would be too if thats what I was told.

Besides to what end would it serve for the mobo manufacturers? Forcing AiW users to use digital drivers or whatnot?

I don't see any gain in it at all and infact it could be potential loss for them so it makes no sense
