Possible Problem Due to MMC's DAO
Since upgrading my system and installing the newest Windows XP Home w/ SP2 from a CD, I'm having fits with my Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.
Whenever I start it up, it wants to install and configure DAO.msi. After checking the Roxio Support site, the only suggestion there is to uninstall and reinstall Office 2000. Well, first off, I hadn't installed Office 2000 yet at all. So, I went ahead and did so. That didn't resolve the problem. Further searching via Yahoo and Google produced this little suggestion: Check ATi's Website for the DAO installed with MMC. So, how would this have any affect on Roxio's program? AND, more importantly, how do I fix it? |

Looks like the program needs it. I don't know the inner workings or dependencies of Roxio 7 though. Do you have the DAO (Data Access Objects) installed? I know it's necessary for the MMC for ATI's AIW's and tuners to operate properly, but again, I don't know why.

Yes, in fact, I have MMC 9.3 installed on the computer and it's working fine.
Now, here's the rub: I installed Roxio on my other computer that has XP SP1 installed and then upgraded to SP2. Roxio starts up just fine on the 2nd computer. Only on my main rig does it give me a problem. |

Confirmed!!!
There is DEFINITELY a problem caused by ATi's DAO 3.5.
Following a suggestion found in another forum, I Uninstalled the DAO (ATi 3.5) from my Add/Remove list. No longer does Roxio prompt to install and configure DAO.msi anymore. ATi, are you paying attention? |

Interesting, sounds like you're saying that ATI needs to update their DAO requirement to get up to speed with SP2 and Roxio 7. Did find that the latest version is 3.6.
Is your MMC stuff still working ok after the DAO uninstall?

I've seen this before and Roxio only says that it needs to reconfigure DAO at launch if you used a registry cleaning program prior. Something in the registry must get removed as it works fine after.

Hi
I have the same problem with ATI MMC and DAO, but not with Roxio, rather, the PC game 'Act of War - Direct Action' - Just thought I'd add this comment. I haven't found any other solution but to uninstall DAO. Also, I don't have ms office installed. Strange problem... |

I found that a lot of people having this problem were having it with various programs. It's interesting that a significant number have pointed the finger of blame on the ATi DAO app. Uninstalling it resolves many of those other issues, too. |

Now what?
I've had the same problem, not with Roxio, but with Nikon View (photo software with Nikon cameras): "unable to find DAO.msi" I installed at one time DAO in conjunction with ATI's TV Wonder software. I've been led to believe the solution was to uninstall DAO from Control Panel>Add/Remove; however, when I attempt to uninstall DAO, I come up with a fatal error 1603 -- which I believe is telling me that the uninstaller cannot find the software to uninstall. My intuition tells me to REINSTALL DAO from the ATI website, but if anyone has any experience with this, please let me know. I fear I am only digging a bigger hole for myself. My only alternative is to forget attempting to use Nikon View -- so far, the only software that has come up with this problem. (Using XP-Professional, Pentium IV 3.0, 2GB).

This problem reared its ugly head again after a new reformat and installation of Windows XP Professional SP2.
After installing MMC 9.03, Roxio Easy Media 7 again gave me that DAO problem. Uninstalling the ATI DAO resolved it quickly. |

Just remove ATI's DAO and started all the apps from ROXIO's to which validates their DAO library. Reinstalled The DAO from ATI and problem hasn't come back... so far

I had this problem. Downloading DAO_MDAC.exe from Microsoft fixed the problem without having to uninstall DAO.

Reminds me I got prompt on my dads system just everytime i'd install uninstall something etc...roxios "setup" would popup and I narrowed it down to part of the programs needing a componet installed and no one had put the CD in. It wouldn't go away! I just uninstalled it and use the nero 6 insted....Its not worth my time or annoyance....

Does anyone happen to have a MMC that will work with the AIW 8500dv. I have had my PC AMD Athlon XP 2000+ for the past 3 years with 2gb of ram and adding hdd's when needed. I am already at 2x40gb and 4x200gb. Not doing the smart thing and having a back up I redid my box cuz I simply had to many things on it. Now I am shooting myself in the foot because I can't find my orignal CD. If anyone can help me out, even with the simple MMC that doesn't contain the DVD App, that is A-O.k. I really like to use the TV feature so much, and now I can't get anything frlom ATI since they do not support it any more .HEEEEELP....! |

Got Bit by the ATi DAO App Again....
After a few more driver installations and reinstalling MMC 9.03, I had the DAO problem again with my Roxio products. (See the Sticky in this forum.)
Anyway, this time I could not Uninstall the DAO from the ADD/REMOVE list. It would halt with an error part way through the Uninstall process. So, this time, I had to go to where MMC 9.03 was installed and double click on the DAO.EXE file. I got a prompt asking if I was sure I wanted to uninstall DAO? I confirmed it and, after a reboot, my ROXIO products are working again without the prompt for DAO.msi. |

FYI for anyone reading in the future, Easy Media Creator 8 and MyDVD 8 also have the DAO problem. If you dont want to uninstall ATI's DAO the solution is:
1- Unregister it by typing this at the command line- regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\dao\dao360.dll" then. 2- Register it: regsvr32 "c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\dao\dao360.dll" Go to START/RUN then copy and paste the Unregister command in the run box. PRess OK Do the same with the second command to register. (i've also made ATI aware of the concern) |

Does anyone know, or can confirm, whether this issue has been resolved by ATI/AMD?
If it has, we can unstick this post. I can't confirm as I gave up on MMC quite some time ago and no longer use AIW cards. |
